Painting of the Day- "Morning Flight"!

"Morning Flight", is a 12" X 24" canvas acrylic painting that I made for my father for Christmas this last year. I wanted to make him a painting that had two of his favorite things; nature and ducks. I chose the early morning as the setting because it reminded me of going duck hunting with him at an early age. We would always go out very early and sit in the duck blind. I probably talked the whole time and drove my father crazy, but he'd take me along. Even though I didn't stick with duck hunting as I grew up, these adventures with my Dad always stuck with me. This painting reminds me of those mornings. It reminds me of the beauty of nature. You can see this piece in my deviantart gallery as well here.

I have been asked to help with my awesome local community of Denton, Texas with their Mini A-Kon on February 28th, 2015. I'll be making a piece to auction there and doing a live sketch session their to add another piece for auction to raise money for a local project. If you are in the area, or surrounding area, stop by and say "hi"!

Recently, I was being filmed for a convention documentary called, Unconventional. You can see it here. While you are at it, you should check out Johnathan Paul's other video work here.
Just to let you know all know, I am taking commissions. If you would like to commission me for original artwork, head over to the commissions tab in store to see how.

I have posted some new shirt designs in my Cafepress store. Head over to my Cafepress store and get a shirt or a couple!

I have opened a storenvy.com shop to sell my toys. Here's the link: http://taylorlymbery.storenvy.com/

If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other show is The pilot episode, where Jeff and Cory break down the Pilot Episode in TV series. The shows are great! Painting of the Day- Battle Armored Baddies!

I am a big fan of classic illustration works from the Masters of the Universe toyline. Earl Norem, Rudy Obrero, and William George's paintings have inspired me to no end. For this piece, I really wanted to capture the classic look of Skeletor and his great cat, Panthor. I decided to do Battle Armor Skeletor and pair him with the new Classics Panthor helm to give his battle cat an armored look as well. I broke up the proportions a little on Skeletor to give him perspective but to also mimic the squatty-ness of the original toys. Snake Mountain in the background is a nod to how the MYP 200X series took care of the evil fortress. To keep the same classic appeal, I colored the snake in green much like the snake trap of the vintage playset. I have been adding an easter egg to my paintings of recent. I've hidden a tiny gray skull in the piece. There is also a tiny gray skull in my pieces, "Dragon Camp", and "Deep Space Drifter". Why a gray skull? I am a huge Masters of the Universe fan and I love Castle Grayskull! I will offer this piece as aprint at the upcoming Dallas Comic Con in May 2014. This piece is an acrylic painting on a 11" X 17" piece on poster cardstock. You can see this piece in my deviantart gallery as well here.

Dallas Comic Con is this week! You can find my table in Artist Alley at A229. Stop by!

Painting of the Day- Deep Space Drifter!

Space is a cold, dark, and lonely place. This piece, "Deep Space Drifter", I created to have a good portfolio and conversation piece. I wanted to take two very distinct movie genres and merge them into one. Let me explain. I wanted a space painting where you have the dead skeleton in a space suit. That's not a new idea, but my thought was this, space is a cold vacuum. I don't think an astronaut's body would deteriorate in space. I might be wrong, but that doesn't seem scientifically sound. So, I came up with a slight answer; time travel and the chaotic old wild west. I get to keep the iconic skeleton in the space suit and I get to add some intrigue that leaves the viewer wanting to know more. The title of this piece is a play from one of Eastwood's "Man with No Name" movie titles; "High Plains Drifter". I think it works well! I will offer this piece, not only for sale but also for print at the upcoming Dallas Comic Con in May 2014. This piece is an acrylic painting on a 11" X 17" piece on poster cardstock. You can see this piece in my deviantart gallery as well here.

"Dragon Camp" art by Taylor Lymbery 2014.

Painting of the Day- Dragon Camp!

Dragons, wizards and fantasy, oh my! What's not to love about a little sword and sorcery? When I started this piece, I wasn't entirely sure that all I wanted to have in the painting would work and fit. Overall I think my mission was accomplished. If you see some similarities to a specific character from pop culture then you are correct. I used a little reference from Orko of the Masters of the Universe for some of the look of my magician. Its mainly the hat that has that Orko vide. Everything else is truly from my head. I'm very happy with the design of the sorcerer. I have always wanted to see a wizard with armor on and this is my first attempt. I have a feeling that I will have to revisit the armored up sorcerer again on day. To give him a bit of magical reference, I used the star of protection on his back and wagon. The crescent moon handles the rest of the magical look tying the staff of the wizard, to his cloak, to his hut wagon in design. I chose the Orko orange hat color to relate him to the dragons and the red as a close relation to his hut and camp. I think the colors really stand out on this piece and I love the wide variety of hues. I will offer this piece, not only for sale but also for print at the upcoming Dallas Comic Con in May 2014. This piece is an acrylic painting on a 11" X 17" piece of poster cardstock. You can see this piece in my deviantart gallery as well here.

Painting of the Day- Robo Force Discovery!

Back when I was a kid, I had this robot that had a suction cup bottom and a "hugging/crushing" feature on it. That Robot was Maxx Steele. For this site, I've talked about three of the Robo Force Robot toys. I reviewed, Maxx Steele, Coptor, and Blazer. In this painting, I've got Maxx Steele and Coptor featured along with the Fortress of Steele based on the Maxx Steele Robo Force toyline by Ideal Toys. As I go and research material on the toys for the Podcast I'm on, Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff, I find all sorts of package and book art from back in the day. I felt inspired to make my own Robo Force painting. Now, I don't think there was ever any Jungle scene in any of the books, but I really wanted to put one in. I thought of it as the world before it went barren in the Maxx Steele book universe. This piece is an acrylic painting on a 13" X 24" piece of polar matte paper. It took a long time painting this piece, and I had a blast working on it. I wouldn't mind making another one day. Maybe I should make an action scene between Blazer and Hun-Dread. We'll see. You can see this piece in my deviantart gallery as well here.

I apologize for having not done any review from the Sci-Fi Expo yet. I haven't had a lot of time to post here lately. The show was good and I had a good time! I got to visit with a lot of great people, including my favorite cosplayers, fans, and peeps! Thank you all for stopping by and visiting. Thank you Taffetta and Anna for your support! Thank you Reese, and Family for the purchases and thank you Candace and Darth Mall toys for yours as well! While I was there, I was interviewed by Eugene, a puppet reporter from Puppets Rule the World. Below is my interview.

If you have to ask, Eugene smelt like dryer sheets. :D

Painting of the day- Daryl Fett!

Daryl Fett painting by Taylor Lymbery
The Sci-Fi Expo is this coming weekend and I will be there February 8-9th. I'm offering the "Two Super Cops Walk into a Bar" print as an 11" X 14" exclusive for the Sci-Fi Expo on February 8-9th. Now, this piece here, called, Daryl Fett, is a commission piece for Joel at the Darth Mall vintage toy store. He wanted a mash up of two of his favorite characters; Boba Fett from Star Wars and Daryl from the Walking Dead. Normally I go for pen and ink Illustration with watercolor and marker coloring, but I really wanted something special this time. I decided to set out the acrylics and paint this commission piece. I like the way it turned out. The size of the picture is 11"x 14" and it is acrylic on 60lb polar matte paper. I've had a few people ask me about it as a print, so I'm thinking of making a small run of this piece as a print. If you are wanting a print, let me know, and I'll see if I can get some printed. When You can see this piece in my deviantart gallery as well here.

Paintings of the day- Children at Risk 2013 donations!

I recently made and donated two paintings for the Children At Risk's first annual "Take the Mic" event in Dallas that is just one week away. The idea behind the paintings was to use the idea of a microphone as an empowerment of voice. The first piece is, "Thursday's Voice" and the second is, "Speak up, Speak out". If you are interested in seats at the event, check out more information about the event and how you can secure your spot today. Visit: http://childrenatrisk.org/event/take-the-mic/. Be sure to follow Children at Risk on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/childrenatrisk. You can see these pieces in my deviantart gallery here and here.

Painting of the Day- Battle for the Crimson Planet!

Battle for the Crimson Planet by Taylor Lymbery
Back when I was young and I would play G.I.Joe for hours, I would come up with some of the wackiest play scenarios. One of my favorite play times mashed Masters of the Universe,
Sectaurs and G.I.Joe all together. It was epic! Back in 1989, I received a really cool Joe action figure by the name of Countdown. Once I got this awesome astronaut, my world opened up to the possibility of having some amazing space battles where Cobra would try their best to beat the Joes in the inky black void. This, of course, came with the belief that I would get at least one of the big space shuttles that were around at the time of this action figure's release. I never got one of the space shuttles. They were too expensive. But that did not stop me from imagining what some of their battles may look like. This painting is a good representation of one of my imaginative adventures of G.I.Joes in space. To make this piece, I took some notes from Michael Carroll in his book, Space Art. I was so intrigued by his "Mars from Deimos" painting that I wanted to do my own but, with a twist. I know that the idea that Cobra burning an emblem onto Mars is a bit ridiculous, but we are talking about the same group that shot the Joes into space from a nightclub in the series cartoon. My piece doesn't seem so silly now. The characters in the painting are, Dee Jay, Maverick and Countdown. The Cobra space vehicles are the Stellar Stilettos. This piece is painted in acrylics on a 13" X 24" 60lb polar matte paper. You can also see this piece in my deviantart gallery here.

I purchased a table for the Dallas Comic Con in May. I look forward to seeing all of the familiar faces and hopefully some new people stopping by to chat with us.

Painting of the Day- Thunder in the Mystic Mountains!

Thunder in the Mystic Mountains by Taylor Lymbery
As I finished up my last painting I took a little time out to get another painting done. I've found that I really enjoy illustrative painting. Painting feels a little more natural than some of the other art mediums that I do. For this piece, I decided to go with Thunder Punch He-Man as the big hero of this scene. The reason why I did this is that I recently picked up a Vintage Thunder Punch He-Man from a local vintage toy store called DFW Vintage Toys. Thunder Punch He-Man pops ring caps when you twist his body and let him swing out a mighty punch. I always wanted one of these He-men when I was a kid. I never got one, but the fascination was always there. Since I got Thunder Punch He-Man, I have had a hard time putting this toy down. I bought a big pack of ring caps to pop in his back pack while I am at stop lights on my way to work. It keeps me entertained while I am on the road. I'm amazed that this toy is still working for being 28 years old now and it's in great shape. I also decided to add one of my favorite toy vehicles, the Roton. I did a review on one not to long ago. If you read that posting, then you know my love for this Masters of the Universe toy. This will probably be the last painting to post for a while. My commissions have stacked up and I need to get them finished. This piece is painted in acrylics on a 13" X 24" 60lb polar matte paper. You can also see this piece in my deviantart gallery here. I hope you enjoy the piece. Now I've got some comics and commissions to finish.
