Pin-up of the Day-Superman!

During the Christmas holidays, I was buying a few things to finish up a secret toy collection of mine. One of the sellers that I was buying from gave such excellent customer service that I decided to give him a quick pin-up of Superman.

You can also see this here on my deviantart gallery.

Action Figure Friday- Playmate's Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's- Kraang!

Not too long ago, I was surprised when I came home to find that my super wife got me a Kraang and a Shredder action figure! When I first started collecting the New Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I only expected to get the four turtles. I'm not sure when that changed, but I ended up with the four turtles, The Shell Rippin' Rider, Metalhead, Shredder, Kraang and a Foot Soldier. That's quite a bit more than I first set out to get.

The Kraang are a race of brain-shaped aliens that pilot robotic bodies and who are responsible for bringing mutagen to Earth. This action figure comes with only five points of articulation. The pose-ability of this toy comes from the fact that the head and arm joints are on ball joints. The sad thing about this toy is that its legs are pretty much pre-posed to the point that there are not a lot of different poses you can do for him. Kraang could have been helped with some waist articulation I think. The one good thing about this toy is that the brain does come out of the robot body, but you do have to be careful with him. Every time I take the brain out, I'm afraid I'm going to break off a tentacle. Kraang comes with two weapons, both are saw blasters. The paint on him is very nice with some metal scratch detailing. I'm not sure if I would have gotten this toy if it had not been bought for me. I will have to admit, despite the lack of articulation and pose-ability, I really like this guy! I'm very glad that I have him in my collection.

Taylor's Toy Wednesday's DIY Custom- Ree Yees!

Ree Yees Custom by Taylor Lymbery
I absolutely love the characters from Jabba's palace! They are some of the craziest and kookiest looking aliens around. One such of those characters is this guy here. His name, Ree Yees comes from "three eyes". Ree Yees finds it very hard to shop for glasses in a galaxy far far away...

Here's a little on Ree Yees:
Ree-Yees was a male Gran Criminal from Kinyen who suffered from a recessive genetic mutation, uncommon among Gran, which caused his hands to be deformed.

Ree-Yees enjoyed visiting other planets via Star Tours, and often brought his custom three eyed camera to take pictures, despite flash photography not being allowed.
Ree-Yees was convicted of murder on Kinyen, and was in hiding on Tatooine as a member of Jabba Desilijic Tiure's court. He was an alcoholic, and was often seen associating with Tessek. Ree-Yees was assigned the task of taking care of Jabba's Frog-dog pet Bubo.
Just like the vintage Kenner Star Wars action figure, this custom comes with a golden rifle of sorts. I had to make it! He is made from a Creatology vinyl blank action figure and has three points of articulation- head and arms move. He looks pretty good next to my customs of  Bib and Klaatu

Now, I've got some important updates, so more pictures will be at the end of this posting. Enjoy the pics. I've got to get back to illustrating comic books! :)

Pin-up of the day- Fluttershy!

Fluttershy Pony art by Taylor Lymbery
Another My Little Pony has been added to the roster of pin-ups I've done. The first was Twilight Sparkle, this time it is Fluttershy! This pony pin-up was a birthday gift for my best friends' youngest daughter. She is a big fan of this pony and she loved this piece. I am starting to wonder if I should just go ahead and go through the roster of the major characters of My little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Who should I draw next? You can also see this piece here in my deviantart gallery.

Action Figure Friday- Gripper!

When Jeff and I recorded the Rambo episode for The Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff Podcast, Jeff realized how much I like this guy and snagged him for my Birthday.  So far, he is my only Rambo: Force of Freedom action figure, and already I feel as though my collection is complete! He is perfect! Gripper comes with a machete, five uzis, two bullet belts, one beretta pistol, a uzi shield with motorized backpack, an ankle holster, and a belt with holster. That's a lot of weapons for one dude! Another cool thing about this guy is that he does not break Jeff's number one rule. He is able to hold all of his accessories. And... and he comes with a yellow bionic hand and a eye patch! This dude has seen some action!
When the Rambo: Force of Freedom toy line by Coleco came to market, I missed out on almost all of the toys. I had one item, an 81 mm Mortar, which Skeletor and General Spidrax used quite often. Now that I have Gripper, I kind of wish I had that mortar again for this guy. I think it would go well with him. I don't know. I might hold out to get a twin mounted 7.62 mm machine gun instead. So many decisions, so little money...

Pin-up of the Day- Twilight Sparkle!

Yes this is a "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" character. If you were to ask if I would ever do a My Little Pony art piece back about five years ago or even further back than that, I would have told you you were crazy. Honestly, I have found that the new television series is at times entertaining and customizing generic pony toys is a load of fun. Ok, I find customizing the toys to be more fun than watching the show, but I'm a plastic addict so I'm a bit biased. I've enjoyed the show, but I wouldn't call myself a bronie. This was a Christmas gift to my good friend, Brynna. She happens to be a fan of this pony. When I was presented with the suggestion of a My Little Pony pin-up, I had to figure out how to illustrate the it. Instead of making a piece that looks like the cartoon, I decided to add my bit of style and make ole' Twilight a bit more realistic; well, as real as a unicorn with a human personality could look, I guess. I'd like to say that this is my last My Little Pony pin-up, but fate will not let that happen; not at all. So if you like ponies stay tuned and I should have another posted soon! You can also see this piece here in my deviantart gallery.

Action Figure Friday- Masters of the Universe Classics: Mosquitor!

Back in December, Mattel released the Masters of the Universe Classics Mosquitor through Mattycollector. I was able to get one on its sale date. Unfortunately, I have a budget so I have to pick and choose a few out of a wave instead of getting a whole subscription. At first, I had thought of not getting this action figure in order to get others down the road. I have to say, I am extremely happy that I did not pass on him! He is amazing! He carries the standard Masters of the Universe male buck chocked full of the standard articulation with a new head, hands, biceps, loincloth, chest plate, and boots. Extra care was taken with the sculpt, giving him some ridiculous awesome detail with cracking and bumps on his insectoid body; basically, the sculpt on this toy is nothing short of absolutely amazing. Overall, he keeps the same classic look as the original toy, but he shares a few updates that give a nice nod to the 200X staction by Neca. I know that some have complained about the small insect arms that are located on his back. I'm actually ok with them. I do have to agree with Pixel Dan about a very needed accessory: In his review, he stated that he would have liked to have had a blood vat backpack much like the 200X statue. I will have to agree and I would say that Mattel should be persuaded to include a blood vat in a future weapons pack, though I am not sure how the pack would attach to the toy. Mosquitor comes with a nice modernization of his classic purple gun that has some very nice purple metallic highlights on it. Now, he does not have his blood pumping chest feature, but does feature a blood filled looking chest plate. I have to say, it works nicely. I know that I had said it earlier, but I am extremely happy with having bought this action figure. He really is a shining example of some of the greatness that this toy line can have. Now this toy has come and gone to the mattycollector website. I'm not sure when or if he will be re-released on that website, but you can find him for sale on other sites. Here is a listing of him on amazon.com.

Masters of the Universe Classics: Mosqiutor

I have my Mosquitor setup with my Classics Hordak, Grizzlor, and Leech. He fits right into place and looks fantastic. If you find him for sale, he is bound to run a little more in costs due to his popularity. He's worth it, well, without going to high in cost. If you have the other horde's men, you will want this guy.

Just to let you know all know, I am taking commissions. If you would like to commission me for original artwork, head over to the commissions tab in store to see how.

Taylor's Toy Wednesday's DIY Custom- Power Armor Lex Luthor Pony!

Lex Luthor Pony by Taylor Lymbery
Some time after I had finished and posted my Super Pony, I had a deviantart follower suggest a Lex Luthor pony to battle my Superpony. This is my answer to Superpony's arch nemesis! When I was deciding on what version of Lex Luthor I wanted to portray in pony form, I decided to go with the power armor version of Lex. To me, this is very iconic for anyone that grew up in the 80's and early 90's. I have thought of making him a custom vehicle. I am looking toward using a toy from Greentoys to make it. At this point though, I am not rushing to get one made. I still have a bit of a roster of characters that I need to get through for my customs.

Now, I've got some important updates, so more pictures will be at the end of this posting. Enjoy the pics. I've got to get back to illustrating comic books! :)

Jeff and I will be at the Sci-Fi Expo on February 9-10th at the Irving Convention center. If you are going, please stop by and say hi.

Pin-up of the Day- 60's versions of my Mom and Dad!

Art by Taylor Lymbery
Growing up, I heard a lot of stories about my parents when they first met. Those stories have always stuck with me. I would imagine what my Mom's Bahama Blue Corvette Fast Back looked like that she loved so much while holding on to my purple Hot Wheels Corvette toy car that Mom got me. And I would think of my dad in his early years in the Air Force while digging through his old uniforms and duffle bags. I would pair my curiosity of them to the tune of John Barry's opening theme of Thunderball featuring Tom Jones cause Mom said she loved Tom Jones and that was Dad's Favorite Bond movie due to the fact that it had scuba diving in it which dad loves. So this last Christmas, I really wanted to give my parents something that showed my fascination with them when they were in the 60's. I wanted it to reflect how I envisioned them back then; how I thought of my parents as adventurers. This is the piece I gave them and I think they liked it. I did a lot of research to get signs, cars, and gear as close as possible to what they had or what was available back then. The piece was made using ink, watercolor and colored sharpie. I used a thinner multimedia paper. The watercolor cause the paper to bunch up a little, so the frame is now flattening the piece back down. I need to note that next time I will need to use a heavier stock of paper to do the watercolor.  You can also see this piece in my deviantart gallery here

Action Figure Friday- Playmate's Kirk and Shuttlecraft Galileo

I'll go ahead and say it, I do not collect a lot of Star Trek toys. I really don't. I have maybe three action figures from the playmates line and one vehicle. The Shuttlecraft Galileo and Kirk are the one figure and one vehicle that make up half of that collection. I normally wouldn't go out of the way to talk about a Star Trek toy from Playmates except for this toy combo. And, seeing as this is my second time to own this set, I believe that there is something special about it that definitely warrants a viewing. So, let's take a look at it.

This set not only has classic Kirk, but has Kirk in his away team sweater. This is the only time you will get this version of Captain Kirk in the Playmates Star Trek toy line. If you can find the away team Spock that is just like this action figure instead in blue and with a new head sculpt, you are set for a shuttlecraft crew.  Like most of the Playmates Star Trek action figures, this version of Kirk has standard articulation. He didn't come with any accessories, unless you count the shuttlecraft. But we are not really here to talk about the Kirk action figure as much as we are here to talk about the Shuttlecraft Galileo itself. This is a truly wonderful toy! I had this vehicle back when it hit shelfs in the late 90's. I sold it in a garage sell and regretted it for years. I ended up getting another as a birthday gift many years later. Ever since I got this toy back in my hands, I have refused to give it up. Again, it is that cool.

If you look at the scale of Kirk to the shuttle, you can see that the scale is way off. This shuttle has no electronic sound or lights like the other shuttles in the line. So, what makes this thing so good? It is the design. Plain, simple, concise is what this toy is. It has playable options that are hidden behind doors and uses all available space within the toy to seat two characters. It has a two part opening back bay door. It has two opening maintenance doors to repair the nacelles. It has a phaser door to reveal the weapons bank, a two part opening pilot door, moveable chairs, an opening nose door to the cockpit and a detachable spring loaded firing canon! All of that is included in a toy that is really no longer than 12 inches; and... and it comes with a Captain Kirk action figure!

Apart from all of the moving parts, this toy has a nice sculpt to it. If you open all of the doors on this thing and look inside, you will notice a lot of cabin detail inside. I also like the sticker decals that are added to this toy. It is not overkill, but enough to decorate this ship and make it special. I am having a hard time finding any fault with this toy. If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! The shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com  and give us a listen. You can subscribe to the shows on itunes and get up to date info on upcoming shows on facebook:
