Painting of the Day- Robo Force Discovery!

Back when I was a kid, I had this robot that had a suction cup bottom and a "hugging/crushing" feature on it. That Robot was Maxx Steele. For this site, I've talked about three of the Robo Force Robot toys. I reviewed, Maxx Steele, Coptor, and Blazer. In this painting, I've got Maxx Steele and Coptor featured along with the Fortress of Steele based on the Maxx Steele Robo Force toyline by Ideal Toys. As I go and research material on the toys for the Podcast I'm on, Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff, I find all sorts of package and book art from back in the day. I felt inspired to make my own Robo Force painting. Now, I don't think there was ever any Jungle scene in any of the books, but I really wanted to put one in. I thought of it as the world before it went barren in the Maxx Steele book universe. This piece is an acrylic painting on a 13" X 24" piece of polar matte paper. It took a long time painting this piece, and I had a blast working on it. I wouldn't mind making another one day. Maybe I should make an action scene between Blazer and Hun-Dread. We'll see. I apologize for having not done any review from the Sci-Fi Expo yet. I haven't had a lot of time to post here lately. The show was good and I had a good time! I got to visit with a lot of great people, including my favorite cosplayers, fans, and peeps! Thank you all for stopping by and visiting. Thank you Taffetta and Anna for your support! Thank you Reese, and Family for the purchases and thank you Candace and Darth Mall toys for yours as well! While I was there, I was interviewed by Eugene, a puppet reporter from Puppets Rule the World. Below is my interview.

Action Figure Friday- Maxx Steele's Robo Force- Maxx Steele!

In the latest Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff podcast, Jeff and I talk about the Maxx Steele Robo Force toy line. I have been holding off on posting any of these toys until we posted the show. I am so happy to finally show some of these toys off. Robo Force was created by the Ideal Toy Company (CBS Toys) in 1984. Each robot had crushing arm action feature and a suction cup on their bottom. As theoldrobots.com put it, "they resembled customized daleks." I came into possession of almost the entire run of the very short toyline due to a friend who wanted them to go to a good home. Well, fret not, they did go to a good home indeed. I need to say,"Thanks, buddy! I enjoy having them."

Today's robot is Maxx Steele, the leader of the Robo Force. THis was the robot that I had when I was a kid and to be honest, who wouldn't want to have Maxx first in their collection? Maxx has a couple of extra play features other than his crushing "robot-hug" arm feature and suction cup base. Mr. Steele also features an opening drawer that can hold his extra weapon and a plug port to put his dual barreled laser blaster on his back. I really dig the look of this guy. Out of all of the robots in this toy line, Maxx has the more unique body sculpting with little re-use of already made parts. Maxx also has the best suction cup of all of the robots from this toy line. 

Even though his extra action feature gun storage is kind of lame, I am very happy to see the nice sculpting that is inside the storage area. If you happened to lose your outer storage door, like I did, you still had the sculpting to  embellish his chest. When I lost my door as a kid, that became Maxx's servicing port for Cobra to use to program him. If you happen to be able to get your hands on one of these gems, I would suggest it. They are simple and fun, and with the new Robo Force line trying to get put into the works, these toys are becoming harder to get. 

I'm scheduled to be on the DELol show on Sunday July 21st to have a good old fashioned "Throw down in the toy isle" toy quiz compatition between Jeff and I. You need to tune in to the DELol show that Sunday. It will be fun!

Today's Robot from the Maxx Steele Robo Force toy line is Coptor. Coptor is the enforcer of the Robo Force team. He is also the oldest of the good robots and was built by Dr. Fury. I honestly have not gone to watch the Robo Force cartoon, so I am not entirely sure where Dr. Fury falls in line of this series canon. Before I knew of the cartoon, I thought that there was just robots for this story line. That thought was based on the few mini comics that I had read. I would've been fine with that idea, but now that I know there are humans, I am absolutely intrigued. I guess I will have to watch this cartoon. So anyways, Coptor here is a really awesome robot to have in your Robo Force collection. One of the things that I love about this particular robot is that you get the only radio (to call Maxx Steele) in this toy line. The radio fits nicely into his back for storage along with a couple of slots for his firing weapons. He also features a free spinning rotor on the top of his head. One good thump, and Coptor is ready for a fun filled flying mission! That is until the rotor stops. Then Coptor will fall far from the sky. What can I say, there has to be some level of realism to everyone's imaginative play time. It helps build character.

The robot I am talking about today is Blazer. Blazer is the Saxophone playing firefighter/ firestarter robot of the Robo Force. He was voted most likely to resemble a firefighting engine in his robot graduating class. Ok. I was kidding about him being in school. Robots don't go to school, they are programmed. Back when I was a kid, I always wanted a Blazer, but I could only find Maxx, which I owned. When I got the box of Robo Force toys that was given to me, I was a giddy that I finally got a Blazer. One of the things that I never realized about this robot was that his head cannon is a basic water blaster which works  like a water bulb that you use to clean out your ears. It's an extremely simple feature, but very effective. Along with his head cannon, he has the basic crushing arms feature and suction cup that seems to barely work that all of the Robo Force robots sport. Now, I'm not exactly sure what all accessaries Blazer came with, but from his package picture, I think that the two red blasters was all he had. I am pretty sure that this comic also came with him since it features him more than the other in package comic I have for Robo Force. These toys are very simple. Their vehicles are simple, and even the playset, The Fortress of Steele, looks a bit simple, but I will have to say that they do have a great punch of action features and play value. If you are able to get some of these toys without having to spend a fortune, I say go for it. They are fun to have, fun to talk about and fun pieces to show. 

Back not too long ago, I posted an Action Figure Friday where I talked about the Savage He-Man. I wanted to post an update on him since I have refurbished his paint. It took a while to get the color of his hair matched. I didn't have too much of a problem getting his boots and belt color correct, as well as his teeth and eyebrows. I know that he did not come with the Zodac black armor and blaster, but honor of what Mattel did with the Wun-Dar MOTU Classics action figure, I figured I would go ahead and get a black blaster for him. I'm very happy with this addition to my Masters of the Universe toy collection.
