Pin-up of the day- Wonder Woman!

Wonder Woman by Taylor Lymbery

It seems to never fail that when I am commissioned to make a Wonder Woman piece, that she is requested to be the angry Frank Miller style amazon. This version of her seems to be picking up in popularity. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with that! When I think of amazon women, I don't usually think of Wonder Woman, but when I think of Wonder Woman, I think amazon. I think of her as tough, and wearing armor. I don't think so much of her having a lasso of truth so much as a lie deflecting whip. I prefer my fictional comic book amazonian to wear armor, carry a shield, spear, and sword. I'm not sure why I feel this way. I grew up in a time when I was used to seeing Wonder Woman jump around in tights, fly an invisible jet and have a sparkling lasso. The only things that I can think of that would sway me to view her this way is not just Frank Miller's portrayal of her, but Xena: warrior princess. I know it seems a bit of a stretch, but she's an amazon too, and really tough. And the personalities between the two are rather similar. It's been a while since I've seen the run of the Xena T.V. show. I have it saved in Netflix and I'm thinking I need to start watching it soon. Now I'm also thinking that I should do some Xena pin-ups! Oh, man, I love that amazon! IIAEEEE!!!

If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! The shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com  and give us a listen. Taylor and Jeff: Action Figure Buddies for Life!

Sketch Book Monday- The Dude from that Kent Comic I worked on.

As I am getting things ready for the upcoming Sci-Fi Expo, I haven't left a lot of time for me to make any new pin-ups that I can post before the show. So, I figured that I would post some older work out of my sketch book. This week it's a character study for the main male character from the Kent Comic Book story that I worked on called, "Vacation Syndication", written by Brady Sullivan. I like that this guy had so many fun facial expressions throughout the 12 pages of the story. He had shock, anger, disgust, terror and many more. If you have not heard of Kent, I have it listed on my store page, here. Go and check it out. You can also see this piece in my deviantart gallery.

I do have a table for the Sci-Fi Expo on February 9-10th. I'll be there with some new work to sell, my pin-up girl posters, the newest issue of Xenex the Bug Man and custom toys. Jeff will be there with me selling some Marvindog media merchandise and taking toy memory recordings! Stop by, say,"hi", and show your support. I hope to see you there!

Pin-up of the Day-Superman!

During the Christmas holidays, I was buying a few things to finish up a secret toy collection of mine. One of the sellers that I was buying from gave such excellent customer service that I decided to give him a quick pin-up of Superman.

Pin-up of the day- Fluttershy!

Fluttershy Pony art by Taylor Lymbery

Another My Little Pony has been added to the roster of pin-ups I've done. The first was Twilight Sparkle, this time it is Fluttershy! This pony pin-up was a birthday gift for my best friends' youngest daughter. She is a big fan of this pony and she loved this piece. I am starting to wonder if I should just go ahead and go through the roster of the major characters of My little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Who should I draw next? You can also see this piece here in my deviantart gallery.

Pin-up of the Day- Twilight Sparkle!

Yes this is a "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" character. If you were to ask if I would ever do a My Little Pony art piece back about five years ago or even further back than that, I would have told you you were crazy. Honestly, I have found that the new television series is at times entertaining and customizing generic pony toys is a load of fun. Ok, I find customizing the toys to be more fun than watching the show, but I'm a plastic addict so I'm a bit biased. I've enjoyed the show, but I wouldn't call myself a bronie. This was a Christmas gift to my good friend, Brynna. She happens to be a fan of this pony. When I was presented with the suggestion of a My Little Pony pin-up, I had to figure out how to illustrate the it. Instead of making a piece that looks like the cartoon, I decided to add my bit of style and make ole' Twilight a bit more realistic; well, as real as a unicorn with a human personality could look, I guess. I'd like to say that this is my last My Little Pony pin-up, but fate will not let that happen; not at all. So if you like ponies stay tuned and I should have another posted soon! You can also see this piece here in my deviantart gallery.

Taylor's Toy Wednesday's DIY Custom- Power Armor Lex Luthor Pony!

Lex Luthor Pony by Taylor Lymbery

Some time after I had finished and posted my Super Pony, I had a deviantart follower suggest a Lex Luthor pony to battle my Superpony. This is my answer to Superpony's arch nemesis! When I was deciding on what version of Lex Luthor I wanted to portray in pony form, I decided to go with the power armor version of Lex. To me, this is very iconic for anyone that grew up in the 80's and early 90's. I have thought of making him a custom vehicle. I am looking toward using a toy from Greentoys to make it. At this point though, I am not rushing to get one made. I still have a bit of a roster of characters that I need to get through for my customs.

Now, I've got some important updates, so more pictures will be at the end of this posting. Enjoy the pics. I've got to get back to illustrating comic books! :)

Jeff and I will be at the Sci-Fi Expo on February 9-10th at the Irving Convention center. If you are going, please stop by and say hi.

Pin-Up of the Day- Gorilla and Kitten!

Gorilla and Kitten by Taylor Lymbery

I was commissioned to make a piece for a present to give to my first Fine Art instructor who is a truly inspiring woman named Robbie Lacomb Roach. (you can see her website here) The instructions were to make a piece that reflected me. That seems like an easy thing to do, but it really isn't. The subject matter came to me while I was eating breakfast one day. I'm not entirely sure what inspired me to do this, but I do like how it turned out. I think my favorite aspect of this piece is the slight uneasiness that the viewer gets from the gorilla. I will have to say that this piece does reflect some aspects of who I am while still appealing to the idea of this being Art with a capital "A". It's not just an illustration piece, it has a message. "What's the message?", you ask. Well, that is all up to your interpretation of this piece. What I get out of it is the reminder of nature, but that is only my interpretation. Call it what you want.

This piece was made on a 14 X11" ragboard. I used watercolor and watered inks to make the wash of the gorilla. I also used colored sharpies to get the bold colors of the cat and the tutu. I used sharpie and india ink for the black line work.

You can also see this piece in my deviantart gallery.

Taylor's Toy Wednesday's DIY Custom- Nick "Santa" Slay!

Every winter, Nick Slay, codenamed "Santa" goes out to battle the evil doings of Iceman and his penguin henchmen! Armed with a Heat Armament Ray (H.A.R.), "Santa" truly slays the icy grip of death to protect all the nice children of the world!

When I saw that Creatology was putting out a whole series of Christmas based DIY Vinyl action figure kits, I decided that I should try my hand at some holiday goodness! Here is the first in a small line of action figures in my custom toy line named, Slayed. Overall, I am very happy with how this toy came out. His arms unfortunately do not move. They had to be glued into place because of the cracking that had started occurring in his elbow. His head does turn, but is limited due to his beard. His massive weapon does come out of his hands. It is made from various plastic objects pulled together to make a crazy oversized sci-fi weapon. I did get a second DIY Santa action Figure to do another version of Nick "Santa" Slay. I will work hard to make sure that that version of Nick's arms will move. Now, I've got some important updates, so more pictures will be at the end of this posting. Enjoy the pics. I've got to get back to illustrating comic books! :)
