Action Figure Friday- Playmate's Nick TMNT Mutagen Ooze Drop Copter!

When I saw that Playmate's was bringing us some new single man vehicles, I was on the lookout for all of the new goodies! This is one of those such vehicles. The first must have for my Ninja Turtle collection had to be this Mutagen Ooze Drop Copter and this thing delivers on the cool factor. Now, I never did a review on the Rippin' Rider Turtle Motorcyle that I have in my collection. My opinion on that toy was that it was worth the price point. This toy is the same in my opinion if not better. Let's talk a little about the sculpt of this vehicle. The copter is sculpted fairly well with all sorts of rivets and mechanical plates detailed on the main body. There is some nice turtle shell plating on the tail that let's you know that this is a TMNT toy. I like that this run of TMNT toys are not SO over-the-top with what "found" objects are sculpted in making it a bit ridiculous. The main body is sculpted in a nice ridgid brown-bronze plastic that feels strong and not cheap.

The rest of the parts are molded in a nice bright red plastic or a steely grey. The toy is easy to assemble and stays together fairly well. The copter comes with 4 stickers. I will have to go ahead and state, one of these labels is hell to put on. You will need a pin or tweezers to apply it. The toy has a couple of play features that I feel are really thought out. One of which is a wench with a foot hook. You can "pickup" other turtles to save them from danger. It is a basic feature, but it totally works! The next is a free turning copter blade. Need I say more? If you can't thump the blades to make them spin, you do not have a very reliable helicopter. What gives this the Mutagen Ooze Droppin' aspect is Ooze barrels that are attached to a thumb wheel. Flip the wheel forward and you've got ooze dropping fun! With the toy, you get silver ooze puddles that you can put in the red barrels if you don't have any ooze. I kind of wish that these were molded in a different color. As of now, it looks like the copter is dropping metal flashing or mercury. It's just a little awkward. Extra features that this toy has that is not selling points on the box are the opening body harness, turnable hand grips and weapon clamps built in on the side of the main body. Little features like these make these toys so worth while. Every aspect of this toy's design seems very well thought out which at times is rare these days with certain toys, so applause for Playmate's Toys on this toy line so far. Everything on this works well and I think that the simple design of the toy makes this worth the price you pay. The Copter is a load of fun to play with and looks great to display!

Here is a listing of this toy on amazon.com:

I purchased a table for the Dallas Comic Con in May. I look forward to seeing all of the familiar faces and hopefully some new people stopping by to chat with us.

I have posted some new shirt designs in my Cafepress store. Head over to my Cafepress store and get a shirt or a couple!

I have all Xenex the Bug Man comic books available for print on demand. You can see that listing here on my store's tab for comic books.

If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! The shows are great! Action Figure Friday- Playmate's Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's- Foot Soldier!!

Recently, I got a chance to pick up the Foot soldier from the new TMNT toy line. All in all, I am rather happy with this toy, but make no mistake, I do feel as though more could have gone into him. This guy has 10 points of articulation. He has a swivel head, ball swivel shoulders and thighs, and swivel hands, waist and elbows. He has one long sword, one short sword, a scabbard set and two throwing stars. I like that the swords can stow away in the working scabbard. I do kind of wish that there was a peg to do the same for the throwing stars. He boasts a black plastic with a primer grey paint application to his legs, red band painting to his head and has grey plastic for his arms. He looks a lot like the comic run of foot soldiers or even the way that these guys looked in the original film. They have a more realistic appeal over their original playmates release versions (I still have quite a bit of love for that original toy design). Now here's my problem, and has been my dislike for some of the pieces in this line; lack of articulation. I really feel that we could have used a ball jointing in the neck that would made posing a load better. I also feel that we could have used some more articulation in the legs. The articulation could have been in the knee, or even just a swivel in the foot. With his foot already being pre-posed in action form along with his legs, the only one way to really stand pose him is how he is shown above. That usually urks me greatly, but is toned done a little due to the fact that he does look cool and has a working scabbard.

You can find this guy pretty much anywhere including amazon. Here's his listing:

Action Figure Friday- Playmate's Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's- Kraang!

Not too long ago, I was surprised when I came home to find that my super wife got me a Kraang and a Shredder action figure! When I first started collecting the New Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I only expected to get the four turtles. I'm not sure when that changed, but I ended up with the four turtles, The Shell Rippin' Rider, Metalhead, Shredder, Kraang and a Foot Soldier. That's quite a bit more than I first set out to get.

The Kraang are a race of brain-shaped aliens that pilot robotic bodies and who are responsible for bringing mutagen to Earth. This action figure comes with only five points of articulation. The pose-ability of this toy comes from the fact that the head and arm joints are on ball joints. The sad thing about this toy is that its legs are pretty much pre-posed to the point that there are not a lot of different poses you can do for him. Kraang could have been helped with some waist articulation I think. The one good thing about this toy is that the brain does come out of the robot body, but you do have to be careful with him. Every time I take the brain out, I'm afraid I'm going to break off a tentacle. Kraang comes with two weapons, both are saw blasters. The paint on him is very nice with some metal scratch detailing. I'm not sure if I would have gotten this toy if it had not been bought for me. I will have to admit, despite the lack of articulation and pose-ability, I really like this guy! I'm very glad that I have him in my collection.

Action Figure Friday- Metalhead!

After all of these years, I finally got a Metalhead from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line. I think the wait has been well worth it, cause this action figure ROCKS! Let's take a look, shall we.

This new version of Metalhead has been featured on the 2012 Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. The episode that he is on is, well, Metalhead.  The title definitely gets to the point. But enough about the cartoon, this is about the toy. I picked this guy up recently with some birthday money. I had decided for a while that I wanted to get one to put with my collection of Turtles.

This guy does have some disappointing lack of articulation in areas, but picks up the fun factor in others. Articulation wise, he has a ball jointed head, swivel shoulders, swivel wrists, ball hinged thighs, ball hinged knees, and swivel calves. That's a good bit of movement. Where this toy disappoints me is the swivel shoulders. I would have liked to see a ball hinged joint in the shoulders to give a bit more articulation like the Turtles in this line. I think that would have still worked with the fireball projectile action feature which is a stick projectile in Metalhead's arm hole that you thumb out. I could actually have done without this feature being here and would have maybe preferred a snap on missile launcher instead and ball hinged shoulders. Are you listening Playmates?

As far as packaging, Metalhead is the same as all of the characters in this line, though he has a variant due to package. The variant is a mistake on the package. In the action figure line-up, Michelangelo is show as Raphael. That's it! I don't think the mistake package is rare. I found two when I went out to get my action figure.

Overall, I think this toy is a good addition to the new TMNT line. I am very happy to have him in my collection and I could see this action figure being a load of fun for kids.

All throughout the month of Movember, I'll be growing a mustache to raise awareness of prostate cancer and I'll be taking donations for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Do you want to donate?! Head on over to my Movember page to see photos of me struggling to make a blonde mustache show and to donate!

T
he long awaited issue 4 is now up for order. It's a great looking comic book! Head on over to the Bug Man site and see what I'm talking about!
