Custom Toy of the Day- The Judge!

Continuing the design line of my ancient alien inspired toys, I bring you a third art toy in that line. This time, I worked small, instead of making a massive piece. For this toy's size, which is about six inches tall, I used a larger selection of soft goods to give this character a more regal look. Once I started making the toy, his name came into being and the final touches of his design were solidified. To me, I felt that this character was a judge. I wanted him to appear to be powerful enough to determine the fate of one. After making the helmet and robes, I decided to sculpt and paint a scepter that mimicked the look of an alien gavel. Looking at the design of "Come in Peace" and "The Sentinel", and comparing this toy, I feel as though the design is maturing. Maturity could be good for the line, but I need to keep a light hearted and whimsical aspect to the toys. How will I do that? We'll have to see when the toys are made. I'll have more pictures after the wordage below... as always!

I will have a table for the Dallas Comic Con: Sci-Fi Expo, February 8-9th. If you are wanting a pre-Sci-Fi Expo commission, let me know and I'll get it ready for pick up at that show. I also have the table purchased for the Dallas Comic Con in May. If you want pre-show pieces for that show, let me know.

I have opened a storenvy.com shop to sell my toys. Here's the link: http://taylorlymbery.storenvy.com/

I have posted some new shirt designs in my Cafepress store. Head over to my Cafepress store and get a shirt or a couple!

Just to let you know all know, I am taking commissions. If you would like to commission me for original artwork, head over to the commissions tab in store to see how.

If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! The shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com  and give us a listen. You can subscribe to the shows on itunes and get up to date info on upcoming shows on facebook:

If you like what we have, be sure to tell your friends! We need your word of mouth to help us keep making shows!

Custom Toy of the Day- E-Rok Ewok!

I've never trusted Ewoks and I never will. I can never forgive them for the death of my... wait, wrong series. I'm wanting something more, "Nu-cha"! Ewoks have always had a mixed reaction with Star Wars fans. Some people love them, others absolutely hate them. I've always thought they were just ok. Here recently though, I've started to have an appreciation for them. Much of that appreciation comes from the Star Wars in Character podcast. The rest of the appreciation comes from collecting the vintage ewoks from Kenner. I really like those toys! Anyways... I was approached by a hometown friend not too long ago to make a Ewok playing a guitar as a toy commission. I dubbed him the E-Rok. I had a lot of fun making this guy, but found him a challenge to articulate. In the end, there is no joint movement due to the size and detail. I wanted more sculpting detail and at a three inch scale, articulation was lost. I used cloth goods to make the cowl and straps for the bone helm and guitar. I am very happy with how he turned out and my friend is extremely happy with the Ewok.
