Ups, Downs, and Working on Getting Better

Hello everybody! I want to thank you for sticking with me all of this time. I know that it has been a couple of weeks since I posted sketch cards, Xenex the Bug Man updates and such. Just to keep everyone updated, I've been in the hospital due to the mass on my neck. I'm out for now but not done. I'll be going soon to get a biopsy and I'll have to see where that takes me. For now, though, I am back at home as of last night. This is exciting for me cause I got to see my cat, got to spend time with my lovely Wife and got to open a butt-load of toys that I din't get to since I was in the hospital. I am happy to be back. As far as my work, I am thinking that I will be back to posting sketch cards on Monday, and I will be working to finish up issue 4 of Xenex the Bug Man over the next couple of weeks before I head on over to do another Unstoppable Force issue. I am hoping my body will allow me to get back to work for a while. Let's pray and keep  our fingers crossed.

Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap).

Now, I'm opening commissions for 2.5" X 3.5" sketch cards. They are $10 + shipping and handling which will be $6 in the continental United States of America. I'll have to get a quote for any territories outside of that. I will also open up my 7" X 10.5" colored page line drawings for commissions. Same price as the sketch cards, but I'll have to check on the shipping (due to the difference in size). If you want to see what I mean by colored sheet drawing, go here. If you want a sketch card, send me an e-mail to taylorlymbery@gmail.com. Name your character and we will go from there. I take paypal.
I want to make sure you all have links to the projects and sites that I work on. Here is the listing.

Post Dallas Comic Con 2012 News

So I wanted to start out by saying, thank you all that came by and visited with Rob and I! You rock for that! And a big thank you to all that came by and bought something too. Your purchases help us keep making comic books. I saw a lot of familiar faces, and I was so happy to talk to you all! Familiar faces always brighten my day!

Now I do want to apologize about my absence on Sunday.  I don't like missing talking with the fans. I had to go to the hospital for my swollen parotid gland. I am in a lot of pain and could not have been able to sit at the booth for the day. I have another doctor's appointment this morning and I do HOPE that this health problem is fixed soon.

Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap). I didn't get a lot of pin-ups done due to how I was feeling, but I did get three. Here the three (Cap'n A, Iron Man, Mega Man), a pic of a pin-up I gave Rob a while ago (Batwoman) and a donation piece I did to raise money to help a couple who just lost their home to a fire (Cowboy).

Enjoy-
Taylor

Sketch Card of the Day- Rokkon!

Rokkon Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

Today's deviation is Rokkon!  Rokkon is the hot headed heroic Rock person of the only two Rock People in the Masters of the Universe toy line. Wow...only two. I remember these guys when I was a kid. I always wanted the Rock people, but never got one till I was late in my youth (thirties). I was excited about these guys cause they turn, nay, TRANSFORM into rocks! Yes! They TRANSFORM into ROCKS! Normally I would say that my excitement is out of proportion due to the fact that these guys turn into... rocks. I couldn't think of a more boring object to turn into other than kitchen supplies. But then again, there's a lot you can do with kitchen gadgets. The most you can do with a rock is throw it, or plant moss on it. Oh, and roll it. But, the fact is that the idea of a transforming MOTU character was very enticing to the kids of my day. I do wonder how Mattel will deal with the Rock People in the Masters of the Universe Classics Line. I'm not sure that they should transform. Maybe they will outsource their character designs to Hasbro for them to make the Rock People into Transformers. My God, in some ways I can't believe I said that and no, Mattel will figure it out.  You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- Clamp Champ!

Today's deviation is Clamp Champ! Clamp Champ, the champion of the... clamp? No, not exactly. He's the heroic master of capture, though I don't think he's ever been able to capture a crowd. Ole' Clampy here was made towards the end of the line, and therefore, in my opinion suffers the overlooking of Masters of the Universe fans. When I was young, I overlooked him, and I believe it had to do with the fact that MOTU was dying down a little. Also, in that lineup for the series the Champ was in, was Ninjor. And if you are playing rock, paper, scissors with a toy lineup and you throw a ninja in, well, the ninja is basically the bomb. It's tough to compete with a ninja, unless you're a panda. Just saying. I never owned a Clamp Champ till I was in my thirties, and I'm glad I picked one up (apparently this character is rather hard to come by in really good shape with his clamping tool). Since then I have sought out the 200X NECA figurine statue and other things Clamp Champ. I've had no luck. All in all, I think this character often gets overlooked, and I think that is just downright "Sad Ninja Panda" master of taking away Clamp Champ's thunder. You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- Two Bad!

Two Bad Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

So this is another Masters of the Universe effort by me. Well, let's not call it an effort. Let's just call it a sketch card and today's deviation is Two Bad! Two Bad is one of those characters that as a child I was completely stoked about! Think about it. You got one action figure with two heads! That's two characters in one figure! He also had this kind of capture arm system where his arms punched together to "capture" a heroic warrior in his grip. Because his arms were designed this way, it reminded me of a crazy dance move. So naturally, I made him the dancer of Skeletor's group of misfits. He also had a spring loaded waist that was a bit of a waste due to the heaviness of his upper torso. He just didn't swing around very fast. C'est la vie. What are you going to do? Now the 200X, Four Horsemen sculpted Two Bad is very impressive. Even by today's Masters of the Universe Classics line designs, I still uphold this character's 200X sculpt pretty high. That's saying a lot. The only sad thing is that he is not really in any dance pose anymore. So, Two Bad is no longer the dancer of the crew. I'll have to find another crew dancer in the 200X line. You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- Vikor!

Vikor Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

Today's deviation is Vikor!  Vikor...Vikor? You might be asking, who in all of Eternia is this guy. Well, he is basically what He-Man would have looked like if there was no Conan license issues. Vikor is based on a drawing that was to be the early He-Man design. Now to be clear; This drawing was not meant to be Conan. Nay, it was in fact meant to be He-Man. (Check out what I'm talking about here.) This character design finally made its way into action figure form this last year as Vikor, He-man of the north! I love it! He's from the north, like the north where Conan was from in Cimmeria, or from the north where... Vikings... were from; you know Vik-ings, like Vik-or... Ok, you get it. I did get a Vikor action figure from the Classics line, and I've got to tell you, He looks like Conan and not the Arnold pseudo Schwarzenegger Conan, but the Robert E. Howard/ Frank Frazetta Conan. Seriously, search Vikor, find a picture of the toy and tell me that that is not basically Conan! There's nothing wrong with that. I love the Conan franchise. Overall, I think Mattel did a great job of incorporating this action figure into the whole Classics toy line.  Now I can visually play out the scenario of He-Man fighting, yeah you guessed it, Conan! You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- Optikk!

Optikk Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

Today's deviation is Optikk! No matter what type of science fiction or fantasy you are in to, this is one of those characters that you just have to love. Why? Opitkk is a space mutant that is essentially an eye ball rolling around on top of a human-noid android body! He is weird, but extremely cool in my opinion. He is originally from the New Adventures of He-Man or He-Man toy line, but has also been in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line. When he was first shown in the classics line, he was the most recognizable New Adventures of He-Man character that I remembered from my youth (and I remember from package card backs). Again, it is hard not to see the coolness and the absolute weirdness of an eyeball sitting on top of an android body. Robots AND Monsters! You can't not love this space up! I ended up getting an Optikk Classics action figure and am very happy that I did. One day hope that I can afford a New Adventures complete action figure as well, but... I won't hold my breath. You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- Hydron!

Hydron Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

Today's deviation is Hydron! As I get more into collecting ALL runs of the He-Man action figures, I keep my eyes open for a Hydron toy. This is one of those figures that, "got away" in my youth. By the time that the New Adventures of He-Man toy line came out in 1989, I had already started looking at other toys. I know that I have already stated this in a previous New Adventures of He-Man sketch card blog entry, but I was thrown off by the futuristic look, the difference in figure scale and the packaging. I didn't think of this line as a He-Man toy line. So, I ended up passing up a Hydron. I have gained great respect for the New Adventures toy line. The toys are uber radically cool. But...back to Hydron. I would have to say that out of the heroes in the new Adventure of He-Man series, Hydron is an absolute favorite for me. From the coloring of his uniform to the molded flippers for feet and BRIGHT primary yellow accessories (including the yellow hose system that hooks up to his clear bubble helmet), this guy could have been the Scuba Steve of my youth. If only there were a way to turn back the clock. If there were only a way to go back in time and make myself, or my mom, buy this action figure for me. If there was another way to get one... Wait a second, I'm an adult that collects toys! I have ebay! Thank you pseudo time machine! Now if I could get past the rather high collector's prices...You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- Captain Glenn!

Captain Glenn sketch card by Taylor Lymbery

Today's deviation is Captain Glenn! Captain Glenn, or Queen Marlena in a space suit. Yes, they are one and the same. Recently, Mattel put out an action figure in the Masters of the Universe classics line that has interchangeable suits and heads. It's a really cool figure. I do have this toy and I have her set up in her space fairing outfit harking back to her filmation days (although her space suit in the original cartoon is white). One big feature with this figure is the fact that she has the ever wonderful trooper rifle that is modeled after Skeletor's Troops' guns in the Motion picture! Squeel! Overall, I like the Queen, but I'm not a gigantic fan of her...until we get into the Modern 200X series. I do feel that the Masters of the Universe writers of that series actually gave her more of a purpose than being the mother of Adam and Adora, and wife to Randor. She councils Randor and Man-At-Arms several times keeping the throne of Eternia at peace within the palace. In one episode, she is stranded in a far off land that has a maze of caves. She is being tracked by Snake men and defends and holds her own against her assailants until Randor gets to her and helps her run off the rest of the snake men. I just don't feel that she has the same treatment in the original series. I might be wrong. Also, I really like her armor in the 200X series. I don't remember her having armor at all in the original series. Now, I haven't watched the original series as much as I have the 200X series, but that's just me. Oh, maybe Mattel will make a Queen Marlena in her 200X armor! Just title her a Battlefield Queen Marlena. If they do, they should know that they will have at least one buyer; me! You can also see this sketch card here.

Now, I'm going to have a bunch of these sketch cards available at the Dallas Comic Con. I'll be selling them for $10. I am also opening commissions of sketch cards.
