Custom Toy of the Day- Holiday Trooper!

It has been a while since I have customized an actual action figure. Most of the toys I have made of recent have been all vinyl designer toys, so I decided to try my hand at a good ole fashioned 12" action figure. Now the base of this toy is made from a 12" Hasbro Snow Trooper from the Star Wars Collector's Series toys. I initially got the sweater from a Michaels Arts and Craft store in the Christmas ornaments. I couldn't help getting the sweater and had first planned to make a Masters of the Universe holiday custom. The sweater was way too big. I started digging through parts and found most of the pieces of the Snow Trooper. A few coats of paint, a sweater, and some festive decor have helped change this guy into the Holiday Trooper! This guy will become a staple in our Christmas decorations every year. He'll be like an elf on a shelf without all of the stupid shenanigans. There are also more pictures of this piece below the important messages below.

Recently, I was being filmed for a convention documentary called, Unconventional. You can see it here. While you are at it, you should check out Johnathan Paul's other video work here.

Just to let you know all know, I am taking commissions. If you would like to commission me for original artwork, head over to the commissions tab in store to see how.

If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other show is The pilot episode, where Jeff and Cory break down the Pilot Episode in TV series. The shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com  and give us a listen. You can subscribe to the shows on itunes and get up to date info on upcoming shows on facebook:

Artmor of the Day- He-Man's Chest!

It's that time of year again! Time for the Neozaz Artmor Charity bidding to commence! This year, I made one set of plates. It is a follow up to last years Skeletor's Chest. Its a great piece and needs a good home! The money made from this set and many other fantastic Artmor art pieces go to a cause that I am a strong supporter of, Toys for Tots. I talk toys, I customize toys and I love toys. My world was shaped due to the imaginative play of tiny articulated plastic and I feel it is important for every child to have that access to imagination in their youth. So, if you feel as strongly as I do about the importance of this auction, or want to have a hand in owning this unique art piece go and bid now! There are also more pictures of this piece on the Neozaz Artmor page

Custom toy of the Day- The Adventures of Rocket Boy and Lazer Girl!

Recently I was asked to make a cake topper for two of my great friend's, Travis and Amanda's, wedding. I was deeply honored and knew that there would be challenges. My first challenge was to add a good deal of movement to make the toy truly dynamic in its design. I wanted there to be a focal point for display, but have it available to be seen from any side. I covered every inch of the rocket and characters with detail. I spared no space. My second challenge was in engineering. I used a wire wreath to make the structure for the smoke. I bent it into shape to make it spiral around from the base. The wire on its own, though did not hold up very well. I added the dowel rod laser blast into the cloud work to add a pillar to help support the toy. The second laser blast was added as a second pillar to help support the rocket. As I took the toy to Austin, I was so afraid that it would not make the journey. I made one small repair when I got to the hotel. The wedding was a blast and the married couple loved their new custom toy! That's a win in my book!

I'll have more pictures after the wordage below... as always!

Custom Toy of the Day- Galactic Giddy-Up!

I had another awesome year with the Vinyl Thoughts Nation at the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show 5! This year, VTAS had based the show around the Mad'L vinyl designer toy. Galatic Giddy-up here was my Mad'L piece. I went a little over board! I really wanted a piece that would stand out. Although it was not plugged in for the show, I have seen a lot of instagram pics of it out in cyberspace. This piece was created using two plastic candle chargers, a strobe light, some crafting foam, christmas lights, sculpey, paint and a lot of love. When the look of the piece was done, I did have a bit of a struggle keeping the toy from overheating. The toy would heat up and the strobe light turn table would seize up and stop moving. I eventually got that all fixed up when I changed the bulb in the strobe light to an LED bulb that would cut down on the heat. I also added some vent holes in the back that looked like they belonged to the ship's design. Once I did this, the toy would run for hours without having to be turned off. Now the toy did not sell at the show. It's a big piece. It is listed on the Vinyl Thoughts Nation Storenvy site for pickup only. I love making big pieces, but for next year, I might just keep the toys small.

I'll have more pictures after the wordage below... as always!

Custom Toy of the Day- Deth Berger!

The Vinyl Thoughts Art Show 5 was amazing! There were a ton of great artists and many, many amazing toys! One of the pieces that I put into the show was this one. This toy was my donation piece for the raffle at the show. Its base toy was the Diablo Texas Skull by John Gonzales. I used Sculpey 3 polymer clay to make the hair, body and the burger fillings. I used Montana Markers to detail the rest of the toy. I finished the toy off with a nice glow application to give it a nice ghostly look at night. I had a blast making this toy! It has a nice Ron English vibe to it.
