Tay Ray Gun's Toy Review: Hasbro's Surprise Disguise Uglydoll action figures

E-man and I find some small action figures of Uglydolls in the wild for a dollar each. Wait, what?! That's right! These Hasbro toys are showing up at local Dollar Trees. Check your neighborhood store for availability. We found all of the dolls, but only picked up four. These are what comes with each figure in package.

Overall, these toys are simple but fun! Each one is a keshi style plastic and sport one point of articulation, a ball joint at the legs. They are able to hold most of their accessories and come with a cool set of stickers to customize your character more. All in all, these are very fun and worth the dollar spent! Custom Toy of the Week- "LV-426"!

Back last fall, I participated in the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show 6. I had two pieces in show that reflected two of my loved film franchises, Alien, and Predator. My first piece was reflective of Alien. This piece, "LV-426", was a fun challenge. I wanted to add elements that spoke of the stillness of the first of the film before all the steam and spinning lights. One of my favorite scenes is when the Nostromo and ore station are coming up to the gas giant and the multiple moons. To capture that look, I made the head the space scene adding the 3-D element of the Nostromo and Station as a sculpted piece. The rest of the custom toy was set up to reflect my next favorite part of the film, the exploration of the derelict spacecraft and the egg field. I had to rearrange a few items and change a little of the shape of some of the exploration suits. This suit is Kain's, using the yellow band as his designated color. Each of the egg sacks were hand sculpted and the based was colored to mimic the worm metal coloring of the pads of the space suit. I had a great time building this custom vinyl toy for the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show! Below are more pictures of this toy after the messages below. You can also see this toy on my deviantart page here. You can follow up on Vinyl Thoughts on their webpage

Custom Toy of the Day- The Mini-A Tree!

Recently, I was asked to help my community out with the Anime Convention, Mini A-Kon, here in Denton Texas by making a piece to auction off to raise money for "The Love of Art: Sharing with Seniors" non-profit program.  You can learn more about this program here: www.forloveandart.org and learn how to bring the art experience to those with limited mobility! I have been wanting to make a tree piece for a long time! I got a bit of a chance to do it when I made the custom toy, "The Old Barn's Foundation", but it was not enough! Approaching this custom I was hesitant about making just a tree. I needed a design choice that would keep it compact. My only logical solution was a bonsai tree. In the past, I used to grow and prune bonsai trees for one of my many hobbies. Then a cat ate them... Working on this piece reminded me of the joy of caring for a small designer tree. I might just get back into my old beloved hobby. This piece will be auctioned off by the Stan Lee Foundation Saturday, February 28th at the Mini A-Kon, located at the Denton Civic Center in Denton, Texas. If you want to try your hand at owning this piece, you'll need to be there. If you want to see this in person, you'll have to be there. If you want a fun experience, you'll want to be there. And if you are there, find me. Bring me a blank toy, and I'll do a little doodle on it with my assortment of paint markers! There are also more pictures of this piece below the important messages below.

Recently, I was being filmed for a convention documentary called, Unconventional. You can see it here. While you are at it, you should check out Johnathan Paul's other video work here.

Production Plush Toy- Cosmik Cat!

This toy marks a new year for me as a toy designer and fabricator in a couple of ways. First, as I progress as a toy creator, I push myself to be able to make a toy that is able to be reproduced by myself in mass to offer to you all. This toy does that by using molding processes and liquid plastics. Second, it solidifies my ongoing desire to make creatures and monsters for a living! I love making bright and colorful little monsters for you all to take home! If you think about it, my artist name, Barnlord, signifies that I work with creatures. They just happen to look like monsters! So, without any more hesitation, I present to you, "Cosmik Cat"! This project has been kept hidden in the dark for a while. I've been waiting for a good chance to spring him fourth to the public. The make-up of this creature is mainly fuzzy plush material with a scaly vinyl underbelly. His face and claws are made of a lightweight plastic with paint application. His tongue is made of a flexible silicon and his collar is a combination of plastic and soft goods materials. The toy pictured is the first prototype. I will have many more made soon. If you'd like to pre-purchase one, send me an e-mailThere are also more pictures of this piece below the important messages below.

I have been asked to help my amazing local community of Denton, Texas with their Mini A-Kon on February 28th, 2015. I'll be making a piece to auction there and doing a live sketch session there to add another piece for auction later that day. The money raised will go to the charity, "For the Love of Art": an art group helping the elderly. If you are in the area, stop by and say, "Hi"!

Custom Toy of the Day- "The Old Barn's Foundation"!

"The Old Barn's Foundation", was a Christmas gift for my niece this last year of 2014. I had heard tale that she liked old barns and when I was first going into the idea of making a barn piece for her, I thought of just making a painting. Every time I would think about working on a barn piece, I couldn't see myself working on a painting. It needed something more! After giving the project much thought, I decided to make a barn from a Creatology blank toy. The true test for me was if I could make a barn and yet keep the look of the toy. I decided to use the head of the toy as the barn, but make the body the roots and dirt. That way I could keep a lot of the look of the toy there. I sculpted roots into the feet and body. I made roots into the hands and built up the land around the left hand. I used potting soil and natural dirt for the cover of the roots. I sculpted in the tree into the hand. The leaves are a type of model moss. Finally, I used very small wood sticks to make the barn on the head. At first, I was wanting to use a cube headed toy, but could not find one. I opted for this pie shaped head in a time of need. In the end, I think it worked out better than what I had initially planned. A little paint, some details, sanding and corrugated cardboard, helped finish the rest of the head. When I first finished this piece, I didn't want to get rid of it. I love this piece! I am very happy to know that it has found a good home. As always, I'll have more pictures after the messages below.
