Taylor's Toy Tuesday's DIY Custom- The Flash Pony!!

My first real introduction to The Flash was through static on my television screen back in 1990. I would struggle to get the show to come through the rabbit ears to see the excitement of John Wesley Shipp playing Barry Allen, the fastest man alive! The show is very silly at times, but It was always worth sitting through the snow. I've always liked the look of The Flash's costume and like the idea of the Flash's super powers. I have read only a handful of stories that both Barry Allen (Flash I) and Wally West (Flash II) have appeared in. The last story was the Blackest Night series. Before that, it was JLA. Neither one are probably great examples of who The Flash is in his world. Honestly, I really should find some decent stories that feature him. So, needless to say, my knowledge of The Flash is really based on the T.V. series. 

When I was making this pony, I had a debate with myself about whether this pony should have a tail or not. I like the idea of Flash pony wanting to streamline his costume in order to be that much faster, but he is a pony, and I couldn't have him without his tail. In the end, I made a compromise. The Flash Pony would tie up his tail into a bob. That way, the tail would not cause drag by loosely hanging behind him. When I did this, I wasn't sure if anyone would get the idea without me having to give background. At the last convention, I found a couple of people who got it without any explanation. I like them. They get me. Now, I've got some important updates, so more pictures will be at the end of this posting. Enjoy the pics. I've got to get back to illustrating comic books! :)

Taylor's Toy Tuesday's DIY Custom- Superpony!

Superman! This pony is basically the horse version of Superman! I know it's silly, but I love this toy custom! I'm sure you have heard of Superman. I can't see why you wouldn't have seeing that he's a bit of a big character in the comic book world and pop culture world. So, I won't go into any background on this character. If you want to read up on his story, and see more about him, check out the Superman Homepage and Superman's wikipedia page. These two sites should have all of the info you will need to  read all of the background of ole' Supe. Like the Spector Pony that I posted last week, this pony has only one point of articulation. His head turns. That's all he needs. His hairpiece and tail are specifically sculpted for this pony. He also features a soft goods cape. One of the things I love about the cape is that it looks like it is in a perma-flight mode. I've already tested his flight mode out by flying him around the house and making swooshing noises when he dives at the cats. They give two paws up for how awesome they think he is. I'll have this pony and any other ponies completed along with the other custom toys at the upcoming Fan Days Con  in Irving TX. Shortly after, the ship was trapped in a sub-space hole in a nebula; and then after that, about to be devoured by a living ion cloud monster; and then after that... Tricorder Theatre

I've read that the scene in Generations where Data is using his tricorder as a puppet, is thought to be one of the worst jokes in the Star Trek universe. When I saw this scene in the theater, I laughed so hard I had soda shoot through my nostrils! Needless to say, I still find it kind of funny. Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. I'll be there with a ton of new work to sell, a new issue of Xenex the Bug Man and new posters. So I'll see you there!

There's been an update to the store tabs on both Xenex the Bug Man, and this site. All of the print on demand issues, cafepress stores and commissions info will be under the new store tab on both this site and the Xenex the Bug Man site. Hopefully this page makes shopping a bit easier. Go and check it out!

I had been working with a good friend of mine, Jeff McGee, before I got sick on designing logos and banners for a podcast that I am on and logos and banners of podcasts that other friends are on. I have listened to all of the shows so far and they are great! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) That show is called Talking toys with Taylor and Jeff. The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! Taylor's Toy Tuesday's DIY Custom- The Spectre Pony

I just couldn't help myself! I came across some tiny vinyl ponies by Toysmith at a drugstore one day. They were a great price and all I could think of is making a comicbook heroes out of them. So the first one done is The Spectre Pony- the Pony Spirit of Vengeance! I've only read a few stories of The Spectre. None of the stories really stuck with me, so I never really got into this character from the DC universe. From what I found on him, he is a supernatural being of nigh-unlimited might whose mission on Earth is to bring the wrath of God upon evil men. He is bound to the soul of a deceased human. Three humans have been bound to the Spectre during the modern age, with Crispus Allen being its current. That's a quick blurb about him. There is more to him, but I won't go into all of the background. If you want to read more, here is a background on The Spectre! So this pony has one point of articulation at his neck. He has soft goods collar, hood, and cape. He also features glow-in-the-dark eyes and "wrath splatter" on his little pony legs! I've learned some things about painting and glueing working on this pony in it's small scale. So far, I have taken all of my fail lessons and have improved techniques that should make these ponies better in the future, but don't get me wrong, I do like this pony! I'll have this pony and any other ponies completed along with the other custom toys at the upcoming Fan Days Con  in Irving TX.
