All Seeing Eye Pin-up Girl Tattoo design

I started a tattoo apprenticeship back in September, but recently had to hold back to be home with my family. I REALLY enjoyed being in the shop and learning to tattoo and I do have plans to go back and finish my apprenticeship one day. During my apprenticeship, I came up with several designs that I thought would be good to bring to the public eye over the next few months. This is my "All Seeing-eye Girl". I wanted something that had a nice color balance between the warm and cool tones to help shape her face, collar, and head wrap. I really like this balanced style and want to play with that type of color design again. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out and I plan to do more pin-up girls in a tattoo design. I have some fun  pin-up girl ideas that I hope you all will enjoy. We'll see if that is true in time. Custom toy of the Day- The Adventures of Rocket Boy and Lazer Girl!

Recently I was asked to make a cake topper for two of my great friend's, Travis and Amanda's, wedding. I was deeply honored and knew that there would be challenges. My first challenge was to add a good deal of movement to make the toy truly dynamic in its design. I wanted there to be a focal point for display, but have it available to be seen from any side. I covered every inch of the rocket and characters with detail. I spared no space. My second challenge was in engineering. I used a wire wreath to make the structure for the smoke. I bent it into shape to make it spiral around from the base. The wire on its own, though did not hold up very well. I added the dowel rod laser blast into the cloud work to add a pillar to help support the toy. The second laser blast was added as a second pillar to help support the rocket. As I took the toy to Austin, I was so afraid that it would not make the journey. I made one small repair when I got to the hotel. The wedding was a blast and the married couple loved their new custom toy! That's a win in my book!

Pin-Up of the Day- Bethany the Vulture Girl

I decided to add another Bird inspired pin-up girl to the roster of my alternative pin-up girls! Ever since I did the "Rachel the Owl Girl" piece, I have felt inspired to get another bird based girl done while on break from illustrating comic book pages. I do have plans to get a hawk based or eagle based bird girl done one day, but for now, I have Bethany. 

I am pretty happy with this one. I love that there is a lot of color. Originally, I saw this being a rather color muted piece. I imagined that there would be a  lot of browns, tans, and gray. I wasn't sure I could let that happen, so I used the outfit to splash in color and did this nice backdrop that reminds me of the type of backdrop you get in a photography studio; also known as a paper role. 

In some ways, the body seems a little off. I really like this. I feel that it helps define my overall style. I tend to make the neck long. This is a feature I like to accentuate. I think it comes from my wife having a long neck. I find that body feature very beautiful! 

I managed to do all the pencils and ink in one sitting. I colored it the following day in photoshop. I have added this to my run of alternative pin-up girl posters that I'll have available at conventions. You can also see this art piece here.

There's been an update to the store tabs on both Xenex the Bug Man, and this site. All of the print on demand issues, cafepress stores and commissions info will be under the new store tab on both this site and the Xenex the Bug Man site. Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap).

Now, you mighty be asking what this Marvin Dog media is. I've got answers. I had been working with a good friend of mine, Jeff McGee, before I got sick on designing logos and banners for a podcast that I am on and logos and banners of podcasts that other friends are on. I have listened to all of the shows so far and they are great! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) That show is called Talking toys with Taylor and Jeff. The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! I had thought of making a Rosie the Riveter pin-up girl with a bird who's color is corresponding to her uniform. As I had mentioned in the Blue Jay posting, she was happy to get just the bird. I was so intrigued by the bird/ pin-up girl idea, I just couldn't let this go! Hanging out with friends one evening, I managed to do all the pencils and ink in one sitting. The Move and the Pin-up Girl

So I am moving. Well, I should say my wife and I are moving. What does this have to do with a pin up girl? Well, not much. But as I looked at my rather bare walls and saw the only art up was my recent line art of an alternative pin up girl, I was saddened a little. You see, since I have been in the illustration field, considering myself a professional self published illustrator, I have done all of that work in this room. My first issue was drawn in this office, not that it matters much. I'll move into a better place, in a better town, and everything will be great. Now I know that this pinup girl will not be the last drawn in this office, but she is to be the first symbol, to me, of a new beginning and better dwelling. Here's to three good starting years at this room to be called the first Red Turtle Comics Studio! Hip, hip, horyeah!
