Xenex the Bug Man update and the upcoming Dallas Comic Con!

I'll be at the Dallas Comic Con on May 17th-19th. I've updated the Xenex the Bug Man site with news about issue 5 of the bug man comic book. I hope to see all of my Xenex the Bug Man fans as well as meet some new people! If you are going, be sure to stop by and give Jeff and I your favorite toy memory to put on the next Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff podcast! See you there!

I have posted some new shirt designs in my Cafepress store. Head over to my Cafepress store and get a shirt or a couple!

Just to let you know all know, I am taking commissions. If you would like to commission me for original artwork, head over to the commissions tab in store to see how.

If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! The shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com  and give us a listen. You can subscribe to the shows on itunes and get up to date info on upcoming shows on facebook:

Sketch Book Monday- The Dude from that Kent Comic I worked on.

As I am getting things ready for the upcoming Sci-Fi Expo, I haven't left a lot of time for me to make any new pin-ups that I can post before the show. So, I figured that I would post some older work out of my sketch book. This week it's a character study for the main male character from the Kent Comic Book story that I worked on called, "Vacation Syndication", written by Brady Sullivan. I like that this guy had so many fun facial expressions throughout the 12 pages of the story. He had shock, anger, disgust, terror and many more. If you have not heard of Kent, I have it listed on my store page, here. Go and check it out. You can also see this piece in my deviantart gallery

I do have a table for the Sci-Fi Expo on February 9-10th. I'll be there with some new work to sell, my pin-up girl posters, the newest issue of Xenex the Bug Man and custom toys. Jeff will be there with me selling some Marvindog media merchandise and taking toy memory recordings! Stop by, say,"hi", and show your support. I hope to see you there!

I have posted some new shirt designs in my Cafepress store. Head over to my Cafepress store and get a shirt or a couple!

I have all Xenex the Bug Man comic books available for print on demand. You can see that listing here on my store's tab for comic books.

Just to let you know all know, I am taking commissions. If you would like to commission me for original artwork, head over to the commissions tab in store to see how.

Hand Eye Study 1 by Taylor Lymbery
It's a sketchbook kind of day! Today I have hands, a couple of eyes and a mouth! Ooh! It's a bit creepy once you see the face in the middle. Hands are tough. I'm constantly using my own hands as models. Is that a problem? Not usually... not until I need to draw my right hand, and that's the hand that I use to draw with. There are hand models you can buy. I probably should get one, but what I am doing seems to be working fine for now. The trick to drawing hands is this: think of your hand as a flat rectangular box. Use an acute triangle for the base of your thumb. Then draw lines out for you fingers. Draw in spheres in the place of all of your joints in your hand. Then connect the spheres with little rectangular boxes that are the extensions of your fingers. With this basic model, you should be able to "pose" the hand and still be able to get the anatomy of it pretty close. It will take practice. The good thing about this method is that it gives you an easier idea of where shadows fall depending on the light source. Now, you don't have to use this method. This is how I learned to draw hands. If you have a better method and want to share it with me, please feel free to comment! You can also see this piece here in my deviantart gallery.

All throughout the month of Movember, I'll be growing a mustache to raise awareness of prostate cancer and I'll be taking donations for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Do you want to donate?! Head on over to my Movember page to see photos of me struggling to make a blonde mustache show and to donate!

Just to let you know all know, I am taking commissions. If you would like to commission me for original artwork, head over to the commissions tab in store to see how.

The long awaited issue 4 is now up for order. It's a great looking comic book! Head on over to the Bug Man site and see what I'm talking about!

Xenex Issue 5 Cover Revealed on Xenex the Bug Man.com

Issue 5 Cover by Taylor Lymbery
Big news for all Xenex the Bug Man fans! Issue 4 is off to the printers and I am waiting to put it on the storefront. While we all wait to get issue 4 in our hands, here's the cover to issue 5! Head on over to www.xenexthebugman.com for more info on this cover

There's been an update to the store tabs on both Xenex the Bug Man, and this site. All of the print on demand issues, cafepress stores and commissions info will be under the new store tab on both this site and the Xenex the Bug Man site. Hopefully this page makes shopping a bit easier. Go and check it out!

Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap).

Now, you mighty be asking what this Marvin Dog media is. I've got answers. I had been working with a good friend of mine, Jeff McGee, before I got sick on designing logos and banners for a podcast that I am on and logos and banners of podcasts that other friends are on. I have listened to all of the shows so far and they are great! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) That show is called Talking toys with Taylor and Jeff. The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! Again, the shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com  and give us a listen. Sketch Card of the Day- Dragstor!

Dragstor Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

Our sketch card of the day is Dragstor! If you hated the Masters of the Universe license and felt that you would never like it, this guy should in theory change your mind. This is one of those obscure characters that has a bit of a cult fan following, and I think it's due to his action figure and back story. Let's start with the cool figurine. This guy has only been made in the vintage line-up. He did not receive a 200X molding and he has yet to show up in the Classics toy line. The vintage action figure had a giant wheel in the center of his body. You would put a rip cord in his side, pull the rip cord and lay him down. He would take off on that wheel and knock things over at super sonic evil horde speed! This was a truly awesome action feature, and to top him off, he had an amazing evil horde look! Now his backstory, from what I found, is pretty cool too. I found two possible stories on he-man.org. First one is that, Ole' Draggy here was once a good friend to Extendar and he was once an Etherian athlete, that is until Hordak turned him into Dragstor with his evil experiments. The other was that Dragstor was a peasant of Etheria, that is until Hordak turned him into Dragstor with his evil experiments. Either way, this guy was doomed to be a Wheeled Warrior! (Ha, I made a toy within toy reference pun. If you are curious, look up Jaycee and the Wheeled Warriors) All in all, from backstory to action feature, I really feel that this character is a great addition to the MOTU universe. I am after the vintage action figure and if Mattel manages to include this guy in the Classics, I'm pretty sure I'll get one if the figure is at a good price. You can also see this art piece here.
