Pin-up of the Day- Wicket W. Warrick

Wicket Art by Taylor Lymbery
I know people who can not stand Ewoks. They just plain hate them. I'm not actually sure why. I believe some of the hatred comes from the fact that the Ewoks were originally supposed to be Wookies, but due to budgets issues, they decided to make Ewoks to save money on costumes. I believe that the rest of the dislike comes from the Ewoks cartoon, toy line, and made for TV movies. I've gone back and watched the Ewoks cartoon and movies and they are just plain terrible. They are not good. But, as far as Return of the Jedi, I'm actually ok with the Ewoks. They have a cute bear look about them, but if you take time to look at some of their costume pieces, you see bones and heads and spines. They are cute little  barbarian bear monsters and I'm cool with that display of clashing design! I don't know. I might be too much of an Ewok apologist. So here we have Wicket, or Wicket W. Warrick. Wicket was played by Warwick Davis. Wicket was one of the main Ewoks that you see the most in the Return of the Jedi film. He helps Leia and takes her to the Village, he also calls for reinforcements at the beginning of the ground battle for Endor. So he's very important for the plot of the movie. He's not my favorite Ewok. I hate to say it that way, but he's no Logray or Teebo. I think he needed a skull of his hat.  Kenner put an action figure of this character out in 1984. I never got one, but I am on the hunt. I can put him next to my Logray, the medicine Ewok. You can also see this art piece here

BIG ALERT!!!

I do have a table for the Fan Days Convention on October 19-21. I'll be there with a lot of new work to sell, including two new pin-up girl posters, a new issue of Xenex the Bug Man and custom toys. Jeff will also be selling some Marvindog media merchandise! Stop by, say,"hi", and show your support. I'll see you there!

My Star Trek Tees are ready to be voted for! You'll have to create an account for welovefine or sign in to your account to vote but never mind that; go vote! I'll leave links for the shirts below their respective picture.

It seems silly, but every kid that liked star trek that I knew, wanted an Enterprise to ride around on. It would've been awesome. Go see this design on welovefine.com here!

Space Anomaly design by Taylor Lymbery
There was one episode in the Voyager series where Neelix asked why Voyager had to go and inspect every anomaly it came across. Shortly after, the ship was trapped in a sub-space hole in a nebula; and then after that, about to be devoured by a living ion cloud monster; and then after that... You get the picture. Go see this design on welovefine.com here!

Tricorder Theatre
I've read that the scene in Generations where Data is using his tricorder as a puppet, is thought to be one of the worst jokes in the Star Trek universe. When I saw this scene in the theater, I laughed so hard I had soda shoot through my nostrils! Needless to say, I still find it kind of funny. Don't judge... Go see this design on welovefine.com here!

There's been an update to the store tabs on both Xenex the Bug Man, and this site. All of the print on demand issues, cafepress stores and commissions info will be under the new store tab on both this site and the Xenex the Bug Man site. Hopefully this page makes shopping a bit easier. Go and check it out!

I just updated the Xenex the Bug Man website with rather grand news that the long awaited issue 4 is now up for order. It's a great looking comic book! Head on over to the Bug Man site and see what I'm talking about!

Now, you mighty be asking what this Marvin Dog media is. I've got answers. I had been working with a good friend of mine, Jeff McGee, before I got sick on designing logos and banners for a podcast that I am on and logos and banners of podcasts that other friends are on. I have listened to all of the shows so far and they are great! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) That show is called Talking toys with Taylor and Jeff. The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! Again, the shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com  and give us a listen. Pin-up of the Day- The Emperor's Royal Guard!

Version 1 Royal Guard by Taylor Lymbery
Version 2 Royal Guard by Taylor Lymbery

There are some Kenner action figures from the whole of the Star Wars line that just stand out as being totally super awesome. One that stands out as being totally BA is the Emperor's Royal Guard. For the most part, these guys didn't have a lot of screen time in the film, Return of the Jedi, but most people that I talk to, always add Kenner's Royal Guard to their favorites. His head doesn't turn. His under skirt kind of gets in the way. He has the potential to always get dirty due to his soft good capes, and yet he's one of my favorites of the entire Kenner Star Wars run. He's that cool for some reason. I still have my action figure of this guy from when I was a kid. He was a stocking stuffer for me back in Christmas of 1983. He doesn't have his lance, but I seem to remember my action figure not coming with the accessory, or  I might have lost it. I do have plans to get a lance for him one day. I did a pin-up of him for last years Fan Days Convention. He sold last minute of the show with several other pieces I did that I did there at the convention. He's pretty popular cause I ended up doing another that was a commission for my buddy, Jeff, my co-host on the awesome podcast, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff". Looking at the two, I prefer the second edition. I'm trying to decide if I need to do another version of  him before the next Fan Days convention in a couple of weeks. You can also see the second version art piece here. The first version is here

Taylor's Toy Tuesday's DIY Custom- The Spectre Pony

The Spectre Pony by Taylor Lymbery
I just couldn't help myself! I came across some tiny vinyl ponies by Toysmith at a drugstore one day. They were a great price and all I could think of is making a comicbook heroes out of them. So the first one done is The Spectre Pony- the Pony Spirit of Vengeance! I've only read a few stories of The Spectre. None of the stories really stuck with me, so I never really got into this character from the DC universe. From what I found on him, he is a supernatural being of nigh-unlimited might whose mission on Earth is to bring the wrath of God upon evil men. He is bound to the soul of a deceased human. Three humans have been bound to the Spectre during the modern age, with Crispus Allen being its current. That's a quick blurb about him. There is more to him, but I won't go into all of the background. If you want to read more, here is a background on The Spectre! So this pony has one point of articulation at his neck. He has soft goods collar, hood, and cape. He also features glow-in-the-dark eyes and "wrath splatter" on his little pony legs! I've learned some things about painting and glueing working on this pony in it's small scale. So far, I have taken all of my fail lessons and have improved techniques that should make these ponies better in the future, but don't get me wrong, I do like this pony! I'll have this pony and any other ponies completed along with the other custom toys at the upcoming Fan Days Con  in Irving TX. If you are in the (NAY)-berhood, you should stop by and let me know what you think of the toys! Hopefully I'll see many of you there! Now, I've got some important updates, so more pictures will be at the end of this posting. Enjoy the pics. I've got to get back to illustrating comic books! :)

Pin-up of the Day- Lando Calrissian as Skiff Guard!

Lando in Skiff disguise by Taylor Lymbery
When I was a kid, and I was watching Return of the Jedi in the theater, I remember not knowing who the guy was in the helmet, and was later confused on why Lando Calrissian was on a skiff during the action scene. Obviously I missed the big reveal of Lando pulling done the mask portion of his helmet to expose to the audience who he truly was. Let's just say that I have some trouble not being distracted at times. I would like to say that I was distracted by the action figure of Lando in the Skiff Guard outfit, but I know that I did not have that figure yet. I did get a Lando in Skiff Guard disguiseback in 1983. I loved him! I still have him to this day, but I recently replaced the helmet and vibroaxe. Like most of the action figures of the characters from Jabba's palace scene, I rank this version of Lando up high on my list of favorites! This is definitely my favorite version of Lando of all time. One reason is due to the fact that he is from the Jabba section of the Return of the Jedi film, the other is that he doesn't have a cape! I don't care much for the cape on Lando Calrissian. The one thing that I think would have made this version of Lando better would have been adding his signature communicator watch to his outfit! That would be totally stellar! You can also see this art piece here.

Pin-ups of the Day- The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

TMNT art by Taylor Lymbery

TMNT art by Taylor Lymbery
With all of the new hype centering around the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon, I figured I should try my hand at drawing the Turtles once again. I have not drawn a Ninja Turtle since I was in middle school! So I took down my new TMNT action figures and used them as reference for these four pieces. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. My one big complaint is that Donatello's page would not scan in flat. For some reason, the page warped by his face, and shows badly on scan. I might try again on re-scanning him. I am combining these four and using some photoshopping work to clean up and make a wallpaper for your computer with these. Just give me time. These four pieces and many other original artworks, and convention pieces will be available at the Fan Days Convention later this month. You can also see this art piece here, here, here, and here
