Sketch Card of the day- The Faceless One!

Today's deviation is The Faceless One! If there is one character that stands out the most as an original creation of the 200X modern Masters of the Universe cartoon series, it's got to be The Faceless one! This guy is really cool. In the cartoon he's the father of Evil Lyn and the keeper of one of the most powerful artifacts in all of Eternia, the Ram's Stone! Back at the end of last year, Mattel made a MOTU Classics version of this character in action figure form. His bio on the package was well thought out stating that this man was once on the Eternian Council of Elders and broke a treaty that gave him a daughter and stripped him of his humanity. He got a really awesome back story! If you want to read his back story on Mattycollector, go here.All in all, he's pretty cool, but not my favorite translation of a 200X character. I think my biggest complaint was the way the shoulder armor/ cape/cowl just sits on him and makes him seem swallowed by his clothes. Don't get me wrong, I like the figurine and wrote a positive review about him, but I feel that one piece could have been done better. You can also see this sketch card here.

Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap).

 

Now, you mighty be asking what this Marvin Dog media is. I've got answers. I had been working with a good friend of mine, Jeff McGee, before I got sick on designing logos and banners for a podcast that I am on and logos and banners of podcasts that other friends are on. I have listened to all of the shows so far and they are great! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) That show is called Talking toys with Taylor and Jeff. The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Husband and wife, Brynna and Jeff, compare the book to the movie adaptation! Sketch Card of the Day- Stonedar!

Today's deviation is Stonedar! Stondar is the second of the two Rock People in the Masters of the Universe franchise. He is the older, wiser, level headed leader of the two. He's like a father figure with a tough exterior. And by tough, I mean rock. I did get a vintage Stondar toy recently, and I'm torn about which rock person I like more. I am leaning towards Stonedar a bit more. I think it's his color scheme. He just reminds me of a cosmonaut. And for this character, it makes sense due to the fact that his rocking surface is cratered and asteroid like.  As we get more and more MOTU Classics toys made and revealed every month, I keep looking forward to the reveal of the Rock People. I think the one thing I look forward to most is their modernized bio. It does make one wonder... What did the rock people's creators have in mind when they designed these characters? What could their rocky pasts be? And where do the new creators want to take them? You can also see this sketch card here.

Marvin Dog Media

Hey everybody! Just a quick update, I'm doing a little better. I did get a biopsy on Monday, and I am waiting to hear back on what this mass is on my face. During the biopsy, the doctor drained it of old blood so the swelling is not as big as it was, but the right side of my face is still paralyzed. Some days have been better than others as far as pain management, and everyday is pretty annoying due to the paralysis. I am slowly working my way back to getting my comic book work and backed up illustration commissions done at the board. Also, I should be back to posting sketch cards on Monday. Just keep your fingers crossed.

Ups, Downs, and Working on Getting Better

Hello everybody! I want to thank you for sticking with me all of this time. I know that it has been a couple of weeks since I posted sketch cards, Xenex the Bug Man updates and such. Just to keep everyone updated, I've been in the hospital due to the mass on my neck. I'm out for now but not done. I'll be going soon to get a biopsy and I'll have to see where that takes me. For now, though, I am back at home as of last night. This is exciting for me cause I got to see my cat, got to spend time with my lovely Wife and got to open a butt-load of toys that I din't get to since I was in the hospital. I am happy to be back. As far as my work, I am thinking that I will be back to posting sketch cards on Monday, and I will be working to finish up issue 4 of Xenex the Bug Man over the next couple of weeks before I head on over to do another Unstoppable Force issue. I am hoping my body will allow me to get back to work for a while. Let's pray and keep  our fingers crossed.

Post Dallas Comic Con 2012 News

So I wanted to start out by saying, thank you all that came by and visited with Rob and I! You rock for that! And a big thank you to all that came by and bought something too. Your purchases help us keep making comic books. I saw a lot of familiar faces, and I was so happy to talk to you all! Familiar faces always brighten my day!

Now I do want to apologize about my absence on Sunday.  I don't like missing talking with the fans. I had to go to the hospital for my swollen parotid gland. I am in a lot of pain and could not have been able to sit at the booth for the day. I have another doctor's appointment this morning and I do HOPE that this health problem is fixed soon.

Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap). I didn't get a lot of pin-ups done due to how I was feeling, but I did get three. Here the three (Cap'n A, Iron Man, Mega Man), a pic of a pin-up I gave Rob a while ago (Batwoman) and a donation piece I did to raise money to help a couple who just lost their home to a fire (Cowboy).
