Custom Toy of the Day- Tony Breaks Free!

This marks the first Marvel Comics based custom toy to date.  To be honest, I'm really glad that it was Iron Man. This is a commission piece for a good California friend of mine. He wanted a cool custom toy for his son who is a big Iron Man fan. When I first started talking about what design to do, I really wanted to make an Iron Man 2020 toy, but there was a want for a more armory look. I used aspects of the Iron Man 3 suit and the Iron Man 2020 costume and combined them together. I used a Creatology Egg head vinyl blank toy to make this custom. When I painted the toy, used a painting technique where I used my fingertip to rub the paint onto specific areas to make the metallic sheen really pop. After the body was painted, I painted Glow in the Dark application into the eyes and arc reactor on the chest. I decided to make a box for Iron Man to break out of to give the toy a dynamic base than just the basic round base. I think the effect of the box works better than the basic base. If I make another Comic Book custom toy, I might have to explore this type of base again. Pin-up of the day- Namor!

The lord of the sea in the Marvel universe is Namor, and Namor only! Ok, that was a bad joke, but what would you expect coming from me? I don't know too much about The Submariner. The most that I know comes from some varying stories of Fantastic Four. During those tales, the most we see of him deals with him and Sue Storm during the aftermath of them having an affair. That can't be a good defining moment for this man. I should find some good story arcs of this character and read up. This piece is for Taffeta Darling. Namor is one of her favorite characters and while I was in Galveston, the beach had inspired me. I took a little artistic license when it came to his necklace. From what I could tell, he doesn't actually wear one ever, but I felt that it made his aquatic assemble  feel like it belonged to the ocean. Pin-up of the Day- Reese as Kitty Pryde with Lockheed!

One of the art pieces that I did for this last convention was this beauty here. At first glance, you might think that this is Kitty Pryde, a.k.a. Shadowcat. You would be right and wrong at the same time. This is not only Kitty Pryde but, one of my Xenex fans, Reese, as Kitty Pryde. Kitty was her costume for the Sci-Fi expo for this year and she pulled it off nicely! I met Reese a year ago at the Sci-Fi Expo in 2012. She got all of the Xenex the Bug Man issues and took a picture with me. The second day of the convention, she brought me a pin-up print that she had made. I have that print hanging up in my office next to many great artists' work. I love it! Ever since that day, Reese and her mom have stopped by to see what I've been working on and have supported the Bug Man comic. I am very thankful to have this family as true believers of the Bug Man comic and look forward to seeing them at each convention. So, without any further delay, "Reese, you're the best! Thank you for all of the support!". I'll see you in May!
