I'm a little behind on posting a post con update for the recent Dallas Comic Con in Dallas. I have been struggling with my feelings on the last convention. Let me get this said right out, I had fun at the convention...there is no doubt about that. I got my 200X Castle Grayskull from Darth Mall Toys along with many other goodies from them, like Mattel's Computer Warriors- Debugg and Kenner's Variant Head Carded Robin Hoods. I got to see family, friends and convention family. Reese stopped by, Stuckey and his family, Rhonda and Chris, John, Andrew and the Imagineer Crew, Taffeta Darling, Glitzty Girl, Gloria and Drew, Devin and the Chesire Cat crew and others. And I thank the heavens for them, for I would not have made table cost without their purchases. That statement brings me to the problem with the con. There was so much space, that artist alley got buried in the back and surrounded by vendors with very expensive pop culture goods. The small press artist and publishers could not compete. With 60,000 people walking through the doors of this convention, I barely saw that number in our area. To top off the weak numbers of visitors in the artist alley, many people seemed absolutely disinterested in indy comic books and small press artist. In truth, I felt that there was a loss in comics which makes the name Comic Con seem a farce. I feel as though that is how the fan base is going. There is more stock in television, movies and their stars and the autographs are not cheap. So, with all of this said, I am in the market to find smaller venues to show my comic and art. I'm not sure if I will go to the Dallas Comic Con next year. Some of the reasons are with the fore mentioned above and some unstated pricing problems not stated.
Furthermore, there was not very many vendors with vintage toys. Not that that should be a big seller for anyone, but its a big seller for me. Jeff recently wrote a blog entry about it that made me whole heartedly agree with the fact that we need more vintage toy sellers. You can read that blog here. Now, I've purchased a table for the Fan Days Expo on the Days of October 17-19th at the Irving Convention Center. I'm staying positive here and hoping for a more successful convention. If not, at least another fun one to end the year of Big Dallas conventions. I hope to see you all there.
Recently, I was being filmed for a convention documentary called, Unconventional. You can see it here. While you are at it, you should check out Johnathan Paul's other video work here.

If you have not heard about the Podcast called, "Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff", then it's time I let you know! Jeff and I are on the show where we talk about toys! (Go figure, I mean Go action figure!) Seems simple enough. We pick out a toy line to discuss in each show. We share our childhood memories, our favorite five, and talk about the one toy in the line that got away. Jeff talks about how he cherished his toys and I talk about how they ended up in the garden! The other two shows are The pilot episode, where Jeff and Josh Taylor break down the Pilot Episode in TV series, and The Loosely Based Podcast where Brynna and Jeff compare the book to the movie adaptation! The shows are great! If you are interested in what we got, go to Marvindogmedia.com and give us a listen. You can subscribe to the shows on itunes and get up to date info on upcoming shows on facebook:
