Sketch card of the Day- Battle Cat!

Today's deviation is Battle Cat! When I was a kid, my family had two cats. Their names were Shasha and Rusty. Shasha barely let me touch her so she was more or less safe from the craziness of a child. Rusty, on the other hand, was not. With that being said, Rusty was hence MY CAT and my play buddy and thing. I viewed Rusty as my Cringer, my Battle Cat. I'm actually surprised he made it to the age of 18 in human years after a couple of roping incidents (one almost killed him) and dress up (where I actually tried to tape my small Battle Cat saddle onto him). Needless to say, Battle cat has always struck an awesome family pet loving cord in my heart cause I thought of Rusty as Battle Cat! The vintage version of Battle Cat was purchased for me from a second hand shop when I was a kid-o. I remember being sooo excited that I had found one that had both saddle and helm. It was a very exciting day! When I finally got Mattel's Masters of the Universe Classics version of Battle Cat, I was washed with so many memories of nostalgia. One from being in the Goodwill store with my bounty of He-Man items including Battle Cat, two playing with my good friend, Rusty the cat, that I loved so very much and the rest being all of the many wonderful days of playing with He-Man with his best friend, Battle Cat. Oh, if you are a filmation He-Man and the Masters of the Universe fan, don't be offended by what I am about to say: I never had my Battle Cat talk. He just roared a lot and chewed on Clawful and Merman. You can also see this sketch card here.

Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap).

Sketch Card of the Day- Snout Spout!

Today's deviation is Snout Spout! Ok, so this guy has an elephant head. There are times I think that this type of mash up only works in the Masters of the Universe, um, universe. Ok, I know it only works in the MOTU world. As far as I know, there was not a lot of background story on this guy before the Classics version toy came out last year with a new biography for him. And I have to admit, I really like the bio. The quick idea is that this guy was kidnapped by the Horde and fitted with cybernetic parts. He was able to escape, and seeing what he was, took the name Snout Spout and used his mechanical trunk to shoot water. Interesting; do they have elephants on Eternia or Etheria?  I don't know, but he became the elephant headed heroic master of firefighting! I had this guy in the vintage toy form when I was a kid. He was pretty cool. He came around towards the end of the line when a lot of fans feel that the Masters of the Universe was getting a little too weird (Not sure that is entirely possible). I really liked him. This guy is one of those characters that you think is cool, but can't bring yourself to get on your own. I never sought this action figure on my own. I thought he was silly. He was given to me by a friend and I never would have liked him if I didn't have him in my hands! I think his action feature mixed with his appearance mixed with actually holding him is what made him cool. Does that make any sense? I'm still after a vintage version of this guy, and I am also after the NECA statction 200X design of him (this sketch card is based on that design), AND the Masters of the Universe Classics release of him too. Again, he seems silly, but because it's Masters of the Universe, I think he works! You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day -Bow!

Today's deviation is Bow!  I never put a lot of stock into wanting any She-Ra action figures until these last couple of years when Mattel put out some She-Ra Characters in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line. One of those such characters is Bow, the rebellion's best archer! This card is based on the Masters of the Universe Classics Bow action figure. I missed on getting this version of him when he came to the online store last year. Ever since I saw the toy review on him, I've opened my eyes to this character and have planned to not miss his Classics toy again! He's a pretty cool dude! And...as much as I think the vintage She-ra toys are kind of goofy and girly, and I'm not sure if I want to be that guy who has She-Ra action figures on his toy shelf, I WOULD be willing to add this guy's vintage toy to my Masters of the Universe collection. And before you judge me, let me finish. I would definitely add his vintage figure if I had the Classics version action figure, cause  it's good to have a well rounded collection to show not only the new (Classics), but also the roots (Vintage). Jeez! Just ignore the heart on his chest and he'll be cool. You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- She-Ra!

She-Ra Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

Today's deviation is She-Ra!  Ok, now before anyone get all angry; yes, I know that She-Ra is not actually a part of Masters of the Universe, but instead a true character of She-Ra Princess of Power. But seeing that Mattel has smashed up the two lines of Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power together in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line and She-Ra is the sister of He-man, I don't mind the cross-over. Now, I have had a few She-Ra POP characters in my MOTU sketch card line-up, but figured I would make note of the difference in cartoon and toy line now, seeing that the character is She-Ra. Not that it matters. Over my years, I have had many conversations with others about liking She-Ra growing up. I'll go ahead and get this out; No I did not have a crush on She-Ra growing up. Sorry. She just didn't do it for me. I don't know what to say, I was a Sorceress guy growing up. I will have to say, that I have learned to appreciate She-Ra over these last few years. I'm sold with the overall viking/valkyrie look in the costume, but she's still not my choice in ladies in the MOTU/POP line-up. Sorry She-Ra fans...If you are hurt by my choice, just keep in mind that she is the most powerful woman in the universe! There. All better. You can also see this sketch card here.

Sketch Card of the Day- Snake Face!

Snake Face Sketch Card by Taylor Lymbery

Today's deviation is Snake Face!  I know that this guy is essentially a male remake of Medusa, but I was so excited to see him in the 200X cartoon when the snake men escaped from the void! When I saw the vintage Snake Face figurine as a kid, I thought he was really cool. I love the fact that he would have snakes come out of his eyes, mouth and neck with a little switch on his back. The idea was that when the snakes came out of his face he would freeze his enemies with fear and turn them to stone, just like Medusa! As with many other characters in the Masters of the Universe franchise, the creators pull from different mythologies and make something quite a bit fun. When the 200X cartoon aired, I was happy to see him with the snakemen. In the 200X series cartoon, he was presented as this regal, more human shaped snakeman. Instead of the snakes coming out of his face, his face would light up and snakes would uncoil themselves from his hair. Correction. I should say that his hair WAS the snakes. He did have one snake come from his face, and that one would be his tongue. So, in the vain of the title "Snake Face", he still had one actually come from his face. So, needless to say I was excited about getting a Snake Face action figure once I saw his other snake men brothers made in toy form. (Kobra Khan, King Hsss, General Rattlor) Unfortunately we never got one. We did however get a Staction figure by NECA. And I have to tell you, the sculpt on it is amazing! It's a beautiful piece! I was never able to get one of the staction figures. He's pretty rare so I doubt I ever will, but I haven't given up on the fact that MOTU fans might get a really cool action figure of this character in the Classics line. I just hope he is presented with both possibilities of Snake Face! You know, one with snakes coming out all over the face, and one that's a bit more tamer like the 200X version. I know it might be asking a lot, but a boy can dream... You can also see this sketch card here.
